These instructions cover the installation and set up of an INOVA PDC door
controller—either stand-alone, or in a system. Be sure to start with the
column on the right, and refer to additional sheets as provided with the
readers and other devices.
INOVA PDC Installation Summary:
Notes: One or two readers are supported (for a single door). Forced entry mon-
itoring requires a door contact, plus an RTE button or auxiliary reader (for exiting
without generating an alarm). Local programming on the standard version, and
Card Plus PIN operation requires a keypad-equipped reader.
Environment:
0 to 55° C (32 to 122° F), 5-95% relative humidity
(non-condensing). Reader specifications vary with each specific reader
(weatherized versions are available for outdoor applications).
Readers and Cards:
readers (with Wiegand output) are supported. Wiegand-compatible
readers must provide either a standard 'format A' 26-bit output, or our
proprietary 36-bit output. Magnetic stripe cards can be either standard
access cards, or existing/custom cards that meet the ISO 3554 standard
(for details, obtain P/N 22-0259 ("Using Custom Access Cards").

Installation Instructions
• All power should be removed (AC
and back-up battery) before working on
any other connections to the PCB.
• Static can destroy IC chips! Proper
considerations should be taken to
avoid static damage during handling
and transport of any circuit boards.
• Never discard any supplied items un-
less you are sure they are not needed.
• One door controller assembly with
cover (may include a built-in keypad).
• The INOVA PDC User's Guide, plus
these Installation Instructions.
• Two magnetic stripe Master Program-
ming Cards (MPCs), plus two stick-on
labels for identifying Wiegand MPCs.
• A small pouch containing:
- Four mounting screws and anchors.
- A diode (1N4005 or 1N5061) for use
- An 8.2 kΩ resistor (grey, red, red),
• One hydraulic door closer.
• Power supply: 12 V
mA, plus current requirements of the
reader(s). Note: With a back-up
battery, select a 13.7 V supply that
provides a suitable charging circuit.
• Suitable transformer for the P/S above
(typically, 16 V
• A suitable power supply and/or
transformer for the door strike (fused
output highly recommended).
• Power wiring, earth ground(s), and a
typical door strike require 18
stranded wire. These wires must be
separate
• Reader cables:
22
(Wiegand/Prox: max. 150 m / 500 ft;
Magstripe: Up to 180 m / 600 ft);
Basic Rdr (Main/Aux) = 6 wires each;
Reader Tamper = 2 wires each;
Main Reader Keypad = 7 wires;
Main Reader Buzzer = 2 wires.
