    DESCRIPTION KNOW YOUR POLE SAW ATTACHMENT (Fig. 1) The safe use of this product requires an understanding of the information on the tool and in this operator’s manual, as well as knowledge of the project you are attempting. Before using this product, familiarize yourself with all operating features and safety rules.
  • Page 12 CHAIN SHEATH The chain sheath keeps the operator from coming in contact with the sharp chain blades when the tool is not in use. It also helps keep the chain blades from being nicked or damaged when the tool is in transportation and storage. DUAL-HEAD WRENCH Lock/unlocks the hex head bolt and the flat screw.

    CHAIN-TENSIONING SCREW For tension or release the saw chain. BUCKING SPIKES The pointed tooth or teeth for use when felling or bucking to pivot the saw and maintain position while sawing. ASSEMBLY WARNING: If any parts are damaged or missing, do not operate this product until the parts are replaced.

  • Page 15 CONNECTING THE EXTENSION POLE BETWEEN THE POWER HEAD AND THE POLE SAW ATTACHMENT (Available Separately) WARNING: Never attach or adjust any attachment while the power head is running or with the battery installed. Failure to stop the motor and remove the battery may cause serious personal injury.
  • Page 16 Follow the process in the section “CONNECTING THE POLE ATTACHMENT TO THE POWER HEAD” to install the extension pole between the pole saw attachment and power head (Fig. C). NOTICE: Once assembled correctly, the pole saw attachment, extension pole and the power head should not separate when pulled.

    OPERATION DANGER: Never cut near power lines, electric cords, or other electric sources. If the bar and chain jams on any electrical cord or line, DO NOT TOUCH THE BAR, CHAIN OR THE ALUMINUM POLE! THEY CAN BECOME ELECTRICALLY LIVE AND MAY BE VERY DANGEROUS.
  • Page 18 WARNING: Do not smoke or bring any fire or flame near the oil or the pole saw. Oil may spill and cause a fire. NOTICE: The pole saw is not filled with oil at the time of purchase. It is essential to fill the tank with chain oil before use.
  • Page 19 ◾ It is normal for oil to seep from the saw when it is not in use. To prevent seepage, empty the oil tank after each use, and then run the saw for one minute. When storing the tool for a long period of time, be sure the chain is lightly lubricated; this will prevent rust on the chain and bar sprocket.

  • Page 21 2. Make a second cut from the top side of the limb, outboard from the first cut. Continue the cut through the limb until the limb separates from the tree. Be prepared to balance the weight of the tool when the limb falls.
  • Page 22 LIMBING AND PRUNING This pole saw attachment is designed for trimming small branches and limbs up to 8" in diameter. For best results, observe the following precautions. Plan the cut carefully. Be aware of the direction in which the branch will fall. WARNING: Branches may fall in unexpected directions.

    MAINTENANCE WARNING: When servicing, use only identical replacement parts. Use of any other parts may create a hazard or cause product damage. To ensure safety and reliability, all repairs should be performed by a qualified service technician. WARNING: Battery tools do not have to be plugged into an electrical outlet; therefore, they are always in operating condition.
  • Page 24 REPLACING THE BAR AND CHAIN WARNING: Before performing any maintenance, make sure that the battery pack is removed. Failure to heed this warning could result in serious personal injury. WARNING: Always wear gloves when handling the bar and chain; these components are sharp and may contain burrs.
  • Page 25 4. Remove the chain-sprocket cover from the pole saw attachment. Clean the chain-sprocket cover with a dry cloth. 5. Remove the bar and chain from the mounting surface. Remove the worn chain from the bar. NOTICE: If there is difficulty in removing the bar and chain from the mounting surface, place the pole saw upright,with one hand supporting the bar, and loosen the chain-tensioning screw counterclockwise with the other hand.
  • Page 26 NOTICE: Small directional arrows are engraved in the saw chain. Another directional arrow is molded into the tool body (Fig. K-1). When looping the saw chain onto the sprocket, make sure that the direction of the arrows on the saw chain will correspond to the direction of the arrow on the tool body.
  • Page 27 5. Replace the chain-sprocket cover, insert the cover-screw assembly through its mounting hole, and then lightly tighten the chain-sprocket cover-screw by turning it clockwise. The bar must be free to move for tension adjustment. CAUTION: The saw chain must be properly tensioned before using. NOTICE: To extend the guide bar life, invert the bar occasionally.
  • Page 28 8. Hold the tip of the guide bar up and tighten the chain-sprocket- cover screw securely. The chain is correctly tensioned when there is no sag on the underside of the guide bar and the chain is snug, but it can be turned by hand without binding.
  • Page 29 NOTICE: New chains tend to stretch; check chain tension frequently and tension as required. NOTICE: A chain tensioned while it is warm may be too tight upon cooling.   • Page 34 GUIDE BAR MAINTENANCE When the guide bar shows signs of wear, reverse it on the saw to distribute the wear for maximum bar life. The bar should be cleaned every day of use and checked for wear and damage. Feathering or burring of the bar rails is a normal process of bar wear.
  • Page 35 TRANSMISSION GEARS LUBRICATION The transmission gears in the gear case need be lubricated periodically with gear grease. Check the gear case grease level about every 50 hours of operation by removing the sealing screw on the side of the case. If no grease can be seen on the sides of the gear, follow the steps below to fill with gear grease up to 3/4 capacity.
