Bullfrog Spa Start-Up and Maintenance Instructions
How to maintain your spa, from first fill to yearly maintenance, using the
Bullfrog @Ease Sanitizing System.
In addition to these instructions, please also read the instruction sheet that is
included with your Bullfrog @Ease Sanitizing System Kit.
Start Up
Do this each time you fill the spa.
1. Fill your spa from below your filter case. Unscrew one of your filters and its
mounting cartridge completely, leaving an opening into the compartment or pipe
below the filter fitting. Insert the hose as far as it will go into the cavity. Turn
your hose bib to full force and fill the spa to just over the topmost jet. Filling your
spa in this way will help avoid air locks in the plumbing.
2. Add your chemicals with pump "1" running. Leave the cover open for about 10
minutes after you add chemicals – especially chlorine.
3. Add 6 capfuls of Stain & Scale to remove calcium and metals.
4. Check the pH level with your test strips. It should fall into the mid range (7.2-7.8)
on the test strip. If it doesn't, balance your pH with Spaguard pH Increaser or
Spaguard pH Decreaser. pH Increaser will increase alkalinity, pH Decreaser will
decrease it (by increasing acidity). Start by adding small amounts (about a
tablespoon) and check back in about an hour (or the next day) to see the results.
5. Add a portion of the included @Ease Jump Start packet to establish a residual 0.5-
1.0 of free chlorine. One packet treats up to 600 gallons, so use a proportion of the
packet, adjusted to your spa's volume.
6. Set the valve dial on the bottom of the @Ease Mineral Cartridge to setting #4.
7. Set the valve dial on the bottom of an @Ease SmartChlor Cartridge to the setting
for your Bullfrog Spa. This is:
#1 for the A5L & R5L
#2 for the A6, A6L, R6, R6L, Stil5, X7 & X7L
#3 for the A7, A7L, R8L, R7, R7L, Stil7, X8, X8L, M7 & M8
#4 for the A9L, A8, A8L, R8, & M9
If you use your spa more than an hour per day, you may eventually need to set
your @Ease SmartChlor Cartridge valve to the next highest setting.
8. Snap both cartridges into the cartridge holder, then insert the holder between your
filters.
9. You will replace the @Ease Mineral Cartridge every four months. You will
replace the @Ease SmartChlor Cartridge when the top pad on the @Ease Test
Strip shows a lighter color than the Out Indicator on the bottle. This should
happen approximately every three weeks.

If the top pad on the @Ease Test Strip shows a lighter color than the Out Indicator on the bottle, or your water is slightly cloudy, you should check that there are still SmartChlor crystals in your cartridge.
