Connecting to a network (LAN)

You can connect your computer to 10BASE-T/100BASE-TX/1000BASE-T-type networks* via an Ethernet network cable. For the
detailed settings and devices needed to connect to the network, consult your Network Administrator.
The default settings make your computer able to connect to the network.
If the VGN-A series main unit is docked, you can only use the Ethernet network connector on the (optional) port replicator*.
* Depending on your model. See the printed Specifications sheet for more information.
!
Telephone lines cannot be connected to the network (LAN) connector on your computer. If the network (LAN) connector is connected to the telephone lines
mentioned below, high electric current to the connector may cause damage, overheating or fire.
- Home (intercom speakerphone) or business-use telephone lines (multi-line business telephone);
- Public telephone subscriber line;
- PBX (private branch exchange).
!
Do not plug a phone cable into your computer network jack.
