Archimede Portable Dataloggers User Manual BATTERIES Each DL is powered by an internal rechargeable NiMh battery. If properly used, the NiMH batteries have an estimated life of at least 500 discharge cycles. An effect known as the "memory effect", which could degrade the readout performance during the use, may occur if batteries are left under charge for some days or if they are repeatedly and partially discharged.
  • Page 14: Internal Temperature

Archimede Portable Dataloggers User Manual Don’t use a different type of battery charger than the one supplied (0ECAB12VNMB) INTERNAL TEMPERATURE If the internal temperature of the DL is more than 70°C, there is a safety system that disconnects the battery until the temperature decreases under 70°C.
  • Page 15 Archimede Portable Dataloggers User Manual KEYBOARD The Archimede datalogger keyboard is designed to work up to 60°C (maximum operating temperature of the same datalogger). Over 50°C, it could happen a flattening of the membrane buttons that doesn’t block their operation.
  • Page 16: User Interface

Archimede Portable Dataloggers User Manual USER INTERFACE To switch the DL on, press the ON/OFF and INFO key pressed simultaneously, maintaining them pressed for some second. After a few seconds (about 5 sec.), the DL will switch on and the display will show the home page.
  • Page 17 Archimede Portable Dataloggers User Manual When the battery voltage drops below a certain level, the bar turns red. At about 10.5V the DL will stop any activity, and the forced turning off is anticipated by an acoustic signal. To save battery consumption, after three minutes without any user activity, the display will be switched off.
  • Page 18 Archimede Portable Dataloggers User Manual The user interface is composed by a series of screens with a structure and a layout similar to the interface used in Microsoft Windows operating systems. Screens contain different items such as lists, buttons, text boxes and check or radio buttons.

Read inclinometer In this section you could select an inclinometer tube and do a new inclinometer test. Show readings In this section you could visualize the results of the inclinometer test performed on tubes.
  • Page 24: Configuring Sites

Archimede Portable Dataloggers User Manual CONFIGURING SITES DLs have a permanent memory used to store configuration data, such as Probes and Inclinometer Tubes, as well as data acquired from inclinometer tests. Despite the memory maximum capacity is remarkable (2GB), the export and synchronization speed of the DL connected to the PC depends on the data quantity.

  • Page 26: Configuring Probes

Archimede Portable Dataloggers User Manual CONFIGURING PROBES Probes are configured globally on the DL. They are not divided into sites: this because it is normal for a user to use probes in different sites. To browse or edit probes, select Configuration in the Main menu, then select Probes.
  • Page 27 Archimede Portable Dataloggers User Manual The DL will show configuration data for your probe. These data include: Name: The name used to identify the probe: initially, it coincides with the name of the probe category, but it should be changed by the user before saving it.

  • Page 29 Archimede Portable Dataloggers User Manual From 0.7.0 FW version it is possible to auto-configure all SISGEO digital instrument (only from fw version 3.xx). In case of digital probes, the display appears as follows: Clicking Auto configure button in Instrument identification menu, the serial number and the type of probe are loaded (if available).
  • Page 30 For digital probes no calibration is required because all parameters are already configured. With version 0.6.0 for Archimede firmware, new units of measure for digital probes have been introduced : °, mm/m and in/ft. In addition, it is possible to read unit of measure different from sin(α) and 20ksin(α).
  • Page 31 = reading - reading where “final” readings take into account the cross axis effect. NOTE: usually the parameters of probe calibration are inserted by SISGEO if the probe is supplied together with the DL. P a g e rev.5 -03.12.2019-...
  • Page 32 When you have finished the parameters configuration, click the Save button: the newly created probe will be displayed in the instruments list. NOTE: Normally the calibration parameters of the probe are set directly from SISGEO if the probe is supplied with the DL.
  • Page 33 Archimede Portable Dataloggers User Manual CONFIGURING INCLINOMETER TUBES Tubes are divided per site. To browse or edit tubes, select Configuration in the Main menu, then select Tubes. Tubes defined in the DL include the parameters describing how the physical tubes should be read.
  • Page 34 Archimede Portable Dataloggers User Manual Type the name you wish to use for the new tube and press ENTER: The DL will ask for data for the new tube; these data include: Type: The type of tube: vertical or horizontal.
  • Page 35 Archimede Portable Dataloggers User Manual READING INCLINOMETER TUBES Once a tube has been defined and the definitions of the probes you wish to use have been configured, it is possible to perform inclinometer tests on tubes. In case DL switches off during an inclinometer test, for example for a low battery, the readings that have already been performed are saved.
  • Page 36 Archimede Portable Dataloggers User Manual Then the DL will ask you to specify some options on how the test should be performed. This screen is not displayed for T-REX tests because these options are meaningless in this case. First, you should specify if the readings should be triggered manually or automatically after a pre- configured delay.
  • Page 37 Archimede Portable Dataloggers User Manual In the following pages, the DL will ask which test should be used as a reference test. We suggest to select the first test in the list (labeled 00). Therefore, it is possible to select any test from the list or to click the No reference button to perform an absolute test.
  • Page 38 Archimede Portable Dataloggers User Manual The DL will suggest the first run to perform. At the end of each run, the DL will suggest the next run. It is possible to interrupt the test at the end of a run by selecting Save and exit and pressing ENTER.
  • Page 39: Date And Time

Archimede Portable Dataloggers User Manual You may also view data in graphical form, for inclinometer and T-REX tests: just press ENTER when the table is displayed. When the last read for the current run has been performed, the DL will display again the list of the runs with the next run (corresponding run) preselected.
  • Page 40 Left Arrow key. Click Measure to record the values and proceed to the next step. With version 0.6.0 of Archimede firmware it has been introduced the auto- dimensioning of the font of inclinometer reading visualization, according to decimal digits.
  • Page 41 Archimede Portable Dataloggers User Manual From firmware version 0.6.0 it has been introduced new log for the measurements that are out of range. These measurements appear as “+OFV” or “-OFV”, in case the value exceeds in positive or negative the electric range of measure.

  • Page 44 Archimede Portable Dataloggers User Manual When a valid value is displayed, you could click the Read button to record the current value. The DL will store the value and get ready for the next level. From FW version 0.7.0 the UP and DOWN keys can be used, only for digital instruments, to increase or decrease the displayed decimals.
  • Page 45 Archimede Portable Dataloggers User Manual INCLINOMETER READINGS VISUALIZATION It is possible to visualized data of an inclinometer test at any moment during the test, pushing the Data button in the window. From the Main menu, you could visualize the acquired data for any test. Select Show readings in the Main menu.
  • Page 46 Archimede Portable Dataloggers User Manual Inclinometer test graphs When the user performs an inclinometer test, it is necessary to make a distinction between the reference test (usually the first test performed, which measures are therefore absolute) and the other tests in which, what matters is usually the difference between the current values and the values recorded in the reference test (relative measures).
  • Page 47 Archimede Portable Dataloggers User Manual Please note that only the absolute value of the displacement is represented. Direction is not represented. Refer to the first graph to view the direction of the displacement. In all the case it is displayed only a line for each tube: in case more runs have been performed, their values are put together to obtain a single value represented in the graph.
