When forwarding Ethernet telegrams, it is ensured for as long as possible that high-priority data (e.g. process data) will not be affected by a bandwidth bottleneck. SHDSL calculator software. The software can be downloaded free of charge at phoenixcontact.net/products. The actual data rate can be determined with a practical test. Phoenix Contact provides test kits with two Ethernet extenders, which can be used to test the path under realistic condi- tions.

Longer distances can be achieved using high-quality cables with larger diam- eters. The industrial Ethernet extenders from Phoenix Contact support data rates of 32 kbps to 15.3 Mbps in 2-wire operation and data rates of up to 30 Mbps in 4-wire operation. The Ethernet extenders are suitable for in-house cables, not for public telephone networks.
Page 26
The spectrum of the SHDSL signals reaches about 2 MHz at maximum. The lower the data transmission rate, the narrower the spectrum. Figure 3-8 Frequency spectrum at 15320 kbps (200 kHz/div) Figure 3-9 Frequency spectrum at 64 kpbs (200 kHz/div) PHOENIX CONTACT 104273_en_01...
The 4-wire operation is recommended for applications with high bandwidth requirements and applications that require high reliability. You can also route the SHDSL lines A and B separately from each other. The lines can be of different lengths and be operated at different data rates. 104273_en_01 PHOENIX CONTACT...
Page 28
4-wire line structure For high bandwidths, a special application is possible. Several point-to-point connections with 4-wire connection need to be configured for this purpose. These 4-wire point-to-point connections are then linearly linked to each other via the Ethernet interfaces. PHOENIX CONTACT 104273_en_01...

Figure 3-17 Link aggregation Several switches, such as the 7000 series switches from Phoenix Contact, support the Link Aggregation Control Protocol (LACP). Several physical links can be combined as one single logical link in this protocol. Link aggregation is possible with Ethernet extenders as of firm- ware version 3.0.
Page 32
The ring structure is completed by an external switch that controls the ring via STP/RSTP. The Ethernet extenders are operated in series; further settings are not necessary. This to- pology is possible as of firmware version 3.0. PHOENIX CONTACT 104273_en_01...
Page 33
Externally connected switches regulate the ring via STP/RSTP. In this case, the Ethernet extenders must be configured with a line structure and operated in hub mode. Hub mode is possible as of firmware version 3.1. 104273_en_01 PHOENIX CONTACT...
