Page 5: General Safety Information
The Macurco BRS-485 simply connects to the back of the detector and a single screw fastens it in place. The BRS-485 accepts the 4-20mA output and is powered from the same connection as the detector. The BRS-485 can interface with Building Automation Systems, Control Panels or other Control Devices that accept Modbus, BACnet, Metasys and Siemens communication protocol. -

It is not to be considered all-inclusive, nor is it intended to replace the policy and procedures for each facility. AWG18 (minimum) for short runs. Since Macurco detectors are rated for operation between 12 and 24 VDC or VAC, the voltage drop between the power supply and the BRS-485 should not be an issue if the recommended power wire gauge guidelines below are followed. The terminals will accept wire from 16 to 28 AWG. -

Modbus, BACnet, Metasys and Siemens are protocol supported by BRS-485. Address - The address of the device in the network. This setting is not available for BACnet. MAC Address: Defines the address (0-127) that the BRS-485 (node) will reside on the network. This setting is available for BACnet only. -

Connect BRS-485 to PC using mini USB to USB adapter, and open Macurco NPU software. Macurco NPU software will display the current settings of the BRS-485. Update the settings in Macurco NPU software and hit Submit to load the updated settings into BRS-485. Open the Macurco Network Parameter Utility Software. b. If BRS-485 is connected to PC via USB, the software will display home screen like one in Figure 5-1. If Software does not detect the BRS-485 it will display “No Device Connected”. The BRS-485 is an adapter which allows the reading of a 6-Series gas detector over a RS-485 interface. To achieve this, the BRS-485 will monitor the 4-20 mA current output of the detector. At power up and during its warm-up period, the 6-Series detector will communicate its sensor type over the 4-20 current output using a custom protocol. -

Solid Green with Bursts of Amber Operation is normal and data is being received or transmitted over the RS-485 line. The BRS-485 doesn’t know the detector type, no errors are detected, and no data is Green/Off Alternating every 500ms being received or transmitted over the RS-485 line. -
Page 24: Maintenance
Macurco MRS-485 Modbus RS-485 Adapter Maintenance The BRS-485 does not require regular maintenance. All maintenance and repair of products manufactured by Macurco are to be performed at the appropriate Macurco manufacturing facility. Macurco does not sanction any third-party repair facilities. -

Check that the detector operating LED light is illuminated Green continuously. If not, do not proceed with the tests. If the unit is in error mode, contact your local representative or Macurco technical service representative for information on resolving the problem. -
Page 26: Manual Operation Test
Macurco MRS-485 Modbus RS-485 Adapter The Fan relay will be activated for the next 1 minute of the test, so if the fan circuits are wired in the typical manner, the fan should run. The 4-20mA output will then ramp up from 4 to 16 mA over the next 130 seconds of the test, so if the circuit is wired in the normal manner, the control panel or building automation system should respond. - Page 27 BRS-485. So, please refer to corresponding object mapping available on the BRS-485 product page in www.macurco.com. For dual sensor (CX-6), S1 refers to carbon monoxide sensor and S2 refers to nitrogen dioxide sensor.

Macurco warrants the BRS-485 Adapter will be free from defective materials and workmanship for a period of two (2) years from date of manufacture (indicated on the cover of the BRS-485), provided it is maintained and used in accordance with Macurco instructions and/or recommendations. If any component becomes defective during the warranty period, it will be replaced or repaired free of charge, if the unit is returned in accordance with the instructions below. -
