Symptom
After presetting, reception is not
possible w ith preset call.
Cassette deck unit
Symptom
Sound cannot be produced by
pressing the play key or no opera-
tion occurs even w hen an opera-
tion key is pressed.
No operation occurs even w hen
an operation key is pressed.
The DPSS malfunctions.
The tray does not open w hen the
Open/ Close key is pressed.
Sound is harsh or high
frequencies are not reproduced.
Sound is distorted.
Noise is noticeable.
Sound fluctuates.

Cause
÷ The frequency of the preset sta-
tion is not tunable.
÷ The preset memory has been cleared
because the pow er cord has been
unplugged for a long period.
Cause
÷ The head is dirty.
÷ The tape is w ound too tight due to
irregular w inding.
÷ A nonrecorded tape is played.
÷ The operation key is pressed in less than
4 seconds after turning the power ON.
÷ A tape is not inserted in the unit.
÷ The tape is w ound too tight due to
irregular w inding.
÷ The tape is fully w ound to one of
the reels.
÷ The tape used is not suitable for
DPSS, for example the spaces be-
tw een tunes may be too short.
÷ The key is pressed during recording.
÷ The microcomputer is malfunction-
ing due to external noise.
÷ The head is dirty.
÷ The tape is stretched or shrunk.
÷ The recording revel has not been
set w ith the CRLS key.
÷ The tape being played w as re-
corded w ith distorted sound.
÷ The tape head is magnetized.
÷ External noise is induced.
÷ A tape recorded w ith Dolby NR ON
is played w ith Dolby NR OFF.
÷ The capstans or pinch rollers are dirty.
÷ The tape is w ound irregularly.
In case of difficulty

Remedy
÷ Preset stations w ith tunable fre-
quencies.
÷ Preset stations again.
Remedy
÷ Clean the head referring to " Maintenance" .
÷ Try another tape.
÷ Play a recorded tape.
÷ Press operation keys after w aiting for
more than 4 seconds.
÷ Insert a tape.
÷ Try another tape.
÷ Change the tape transport direction or re-
verse the tape insertion orientation.
÷ Refer to " DPSS" .
÷ Press in stop mode.
÷ Unplug the pow er cord and plug it again.
÷ Clean the head referring to " Maintenance" .
÷ Try another tape.
÷ Refer to " Recording" .
÷ Try another tape.
÷ Demagnetize the head referring to " M ain-
tenance" .
÷ Install the system at a distance from other
electric appliances and TV.
÷ Set the Dolby NR to on.
÷ Clean the head referring to " Maintenance" .
÷ Wind the tape again by fast forw arding,
rew inding or playing from an end to the
other.
