Introduction:
The HD Focus is a single channel PCI board, which enables NT-based systems to play back
High-Definition video (HDTV) from a hard disk. The stored video file is in the form of a standard
MPEG2 transport stream file. Audio and video PES IDs can be set in software for multi-stream
applications. All 18 of the standard ATSC digital television formats are supported. The output of
the card is either RGBHV or YPrPb analog video (software selectable) and the output video
converters have 10 bits of resolution in order to provide high accuracy and pristine images. A
bus-master design means that very little processor overhead is required when playing files.
Dolby digital 5.1 surround sound is supported in hardware, which (unlike software solutions)
allows for multiple-card support in one computer system. Multiple audio channels can be down
mixed to stereo, and a variety of audio formats can be decoded.
A comprehensive API is included with the board to allow for rapid application development, and
the ReelTime HD software library is functionally similar to the Visual Circuits 4ReelTime
Pro/RGB series of MPEG2 playback cards.
