Servicing the Air Cleaner

Foam Element: Clean after every 25 operating hours.
Paper Element: Clean after every 100 operating hours.
Replace after every 200 operating hours or
yearly, which ever occurs first.
Note: Service the air cleaner more frequently (every few
hours) if operating conditions are extremely dusty or
sandy.
Removing the Foam and Paper Elements
1. Disengage the power take off (PTO), set the parking
brake, and turn the ignition key to off. Remove the
key.
2. Clean around the air cleaner to prevent dirt from
getting into the engine and causing damage. Unscrew
the knob and remove the air cleaner cover (Fig. 35).

3. Carefully slide the foam element off the paper element
(Fig. 35).
4. Unscrew the cover nut and remove the paper element
(Fig. 35).
Cleaning the Foam Element
1. Wash the foam element in liquid soap and warm water.
When the element is clean, rinse it thoroughly.
2. Dry the element by squeezing it in a clean cloth (do
not wring).
Important
Replace the foam element if it is torn or
worn. Do not oil the foam element.

Cleaning the Paper Element
1. Lightly tap the element on a flat surface to remove
dust and dirt (Fig. 37).
2. Inspect the element for tears, an oily film, and damage
to the rubber seal.
Important
Never clean the paper element with
pressurized air or liquids. Replace the paper element if it
is damaged, or cannot be cleaned thoroughly.
