Page 4 Panchromatic Kodascope Model D User Manual Instructions for the Operation of the Kodascope To successfully operate the Kodascope, the instructions in this manual should be carefully read and followed. The Kodascope is accurately adjusted and is very simple to operate but, unless the few things which have to be done by the operator are done correctly, there will be danger of injuring the film.

Panchromatic Kodascope Model D User Manual Threading Place the reel of film or supply reel on the supply spindle 12, Fig. 4, so that the film draws from the part of the coil nearest the lamp house, with the shiny side of film towards the center of the reel * and with the picture upside down.

Be sure that the dull side of the film is towards the lens barrel 3, and that the film is pushed all the way in, so that none of it projects beyond the edge of the gate.

These loops provide slack in the film between the continuously moving sprocket and the intermittently moving pull-down.

When the current is turned on it automatically lights the lamp and starts the motor at the same time. If the motor does not start at once, revolve the adjusting knob 33, Fig.

This will sometimes happen if some of the film perforations are broken, If this should occur, stop the mechanism at once by pushing the black button of the switch 47, Fig, 9.

Place the spring belt Figs. 9 and 11, onto the upper reel pulley 48, giving the belt a twist as shown in Fig. 11. Be sure that the belt is in the groove on the pull-down shaft 49, Fig.

The cover is fastened by means of two projections at the top and one at the bottom, which fit into holes on the edges of the frame around the pull-down mechanism. Never remove the cover while the Kodascope is running.

Panchromatic Kodascope Model D User Manual To remove the gate 20, Fig. 13, page 20, first pull back the spring 37, then take hold of the ends of the gate and lift it off the projection on the lower end of the framing lever 26, Fig. 13, page 20. Clean the tracks of the gate, also the frame around the pull-down mechanism with a slightly moistened clean cloth.

Insert the new lamp with the larger flange over the larger opening; press it down into the socket and give it a quarter turn to the right until it snaps into position.

Panchromatic Kodascope Model D User Manual The picture area of the film should never be handled in any way. Scratches are generally caused by careless rewinding of the film, from “cinching” it tightly on the reel, or from a dirty gate. Slack film should be taken up by rewinding the film onto another reel slowly and then winding with an even tension and at uniform speed back onto the first reel.

Use the splicing block in the Kodascope Film Splicing Outfit, or use the Kodascope Rapid Splicer, and follow the splicing directions that are included with the outfit.
