2. Modular Flow Meter System TS The flow meter operates according to the positive displacement principle. In a housing fitted with inlet and outlet is a measuring chamber through which the fluid is forced to flow on its way through the housing. In the measuring chamber, a nutating disc blocks the fluid`s clear path. As it flows through the measuring chamber, the fluid pushes the nutating disc to one side. It is the action of displacing the impediment which produces the wobble movement of the disc and circular motion of the nutating disc shaft. By means of a driver, a magnet with several poles is set into rotation, which is able to activate a magnetically switched contact through the lid of the housing.
3. Modular Flow Meter System HDO The flow meters of series HDO are oval gear flow meters. This has proven to be a reliable and highly ac- curate method of measuring flow. Exceptional repeatability and high accuracy over a wide range of fluid viscosities and flow rates are features of the HDO series flow meter design. The low pressure drop and high pressure rating means the HDO series flow meter is suitable for both gravity and pump (in line) applications. For practically-orientated application, the flow meter system is made up of various modules: À Operating unit Electronic evaluating unit with touchscreen for operation of the flow meter. Á Protection cap Protects the modules basic flow meter, relay module or power sup- ply unit when the operating unit is decentrally installed. Pulse converter Amplifies the signals from the basic flow meter. Is required if the signals need to be transmitted further than 5 m.
4. Safety The manufacturer will not be held responsible for any damages resulting from non-compliance of the overall documentation, in particular for damages in case of non-compliance of the operating instructions. 4.1 General safety information Observe following regulations before accomplishing all activities. Product safety The operating unit is constructed in conformity with the state of the art and approved safety-related standards.

You can use this function to switch fault detection on or off. You can specify a monitoring time for the flow meter. If the flow meter does not detect any fluid during this monitoring time, the current filling process is terminated and an error is reported. This allows issues such as an empty sampling vessel, dry running, air pockets, and mechanical faults on the flow meter to be detected (→ chapter 9.14). You can use this function to set the switching behavior of relay output 2 during the filling process. You can switch on a connected solenoid valve early or with Menu 3/5 a delay in this way (→ chapter 9.15). Fault detection You can use this function to switch the leakage alarm on or off.

You can use this function to switch the measuring activity of the flow meter on or off. This is helpful for commissioning and maintenance work (→ chapter 9.24). In the flow meter system, multiple operating units, relay modules, and basic flow meters can be connected up. A relay module and a basic flow meter form a unit. The operating unit only works with a basic flow meter or with a unit Menu 5/5 consisting of relay module and basic flow meter in all cases. You can use this function to couple up a basic flow meter and a relay module to form a unit. In Meas. on/off the case of multiple units you select which one is actuated by the operating Coupling modules unit. This function is only active if multiple basic flow meters or relay modules Programming lock are connected up (→ chapter 9.25). 9.14 Fault detection On/Off/Change value The filling process can be controlled automatically by the flow meter, since faults may develop in the con- necting lines, such as running dry, blockages, defective solenoid valves, etc. After the start of the filling process, the flow meter monitors the time during which no liquid is registered. The flow meter switches off when a certain time limit is exceeded. A fault report appears on the display. The interrupted filling process can be resumed or completed when the fault has been remedied. The monitoring time can be freely selected between 1 and 99999 seconds. A time of 3 seconds is set by the manufacturer.
