Servicing

7.1
Servicing
This section describes the servicing jobs that can be carried out
on the heater and its components when installed.
To maintain the functional reliability of the heater, the specified
servicing jobs should be carried out before or after each heating
period.
7.2

Working on the heater

DANGER
Before working on the heater: disconnect the power
supply to the heater, the coolant pump and the vehicle
fan.
u
Disconnect the negative terminal of the vehicle bat-
tery
u
Remove the power cable
DANGER
To avoid electric shocks, guard against electric shocks,
risk of fire and risk of damage caused by hot, moving or
sharp objects.
u
Do not adapt the heater supply cables or shorten
or lengthen them yourself.
NOTE
u
Collect the coolant running out of the system in a
suitable container.
u
Block or disconnect coolant hoses.
DANGER
To avoid electric shocks and guard against electric
shocks and damage to people or objects
u
It is not permitted to repair the heater. If faulty, the
entire heater must be replaced.
Once the heater and all coolant-carrying components have been
installed, the entire coolant system should be filled, bled and
checked for leaks at the system pressure as specified by the
vehicle manufacturer (see Technical Data). Refer to the general
installation instructions and the vehicle-specific installation in-
structions for repairs that require the heater to be installed in a
different position.
7.3

Maintenance

7.3.1

Annual

NOTE
Check connector and power cable for damage.
u
Protect the contact pins of the integrated connector (in the
vehicle) against corrosion. Use a spray that is approved for
electrical contacts.
u
Check the heater supply cables for damage.
u
Replace damaged parts.
u
Check the following points:
n Check the electrical connections for contact corrosion and
firm seating.
n Cover for integrated connector
n Power cable
n 12 V wiring harness
n 12 V supply cable to the coolant pump
n 12 V supply cable to the vehicle fan

n Check coolant system for leaks (cracks in the coolant hose,
pressure test if necessary)
After testing:
u
Start up the heater
Check the following points:
n Coolant pump is running
n Check coolant system for leaks
n Vehicle fan is running
n Coolant system heats up
n Vehicle interior heats up
