Fan Selection Determine the Right Size Fan for Your Bin Size First Warning! Determining the correct size fan for the size of the bin, type of grain and needs, is the key to successful drying. Responsibility for the Grain Condition is Yours! Warning! Incorrect fan size will cause your EQM Controls to not preform to your expectations.
Installation 1. Mount Control Box Mount (224319) to bottom of Control Box as shown below utilizing ¼”x 1/2” Hex Bolts (154002) and ¼” Lock Washers (154060). a. If mounting to a Centrifugal Fan, mount Cent Box Mounts (224414) as shown below utilizing ¼” x ¾” Hex Bolts (154003), ¼”...

Installation ii. Position Control Box Assembly on top of fan as shown and mount to top of fan housing utilizing ¼” x 1.25” Drill Screws (157630). b. Triumph Fan Option i. Drill (4) 9/32” holes and 7/8” hole on top of fan where indicated by dimples.
Page 12
Installation 4. Seal Temperature and Relative Humidity Sensor holes with silicone caulk. 5. If the optional Headspace Temperature/Relative Humidity Sensor was provided, install at this time. a. Sensor will be mounted to the bin roof above where grain is present. To install, this requires drilling a 7/8”...
EQM Control EQM Conditioning Principles 1. Shelf Life Conditioning starts with storage and the desire to keep grain as long as possible without spoilage. Shelf life is determined by grain moisture and storage temperature. This has been well documented by university research and verified by field results.
Page 14
EQM Control EQM Conditioning Principles These principles are important to understand because it affects how grain is dried, the Drying Front, and Equilibrium Moisture (EQM). When water is turned to vapor it takes energy away from the surface of what it is leaving. This is just like when people sweat.
Page 15
EQM Control EQM Conditioning Principles Relative humidity and temp create vapor pressure in the air Moisture content and temp create vapor pressure from the kernel The pressure difference drives moisture either into the air or into the kernel: • When the pressure in the air is greater, the grain gets wetter •...
Page 16
EQM Control EQM Conditioning Principles • The airflow (cfm) is simply how many pounds of air are available to remove water. More airflow means that more pounds of air can carry away more pounds of water per minute. 6. Typical EQM Since the EQM of the air is critical to whether we are removing or adding moisture of the grain, we need to know when the air is right to accomplish the desired Target EQM for the grain.
Page 17
EQM Control EQM Conditioning Principles 7. Adding heat Adding a small amount of heat has a dramatic effect on EQM. For example: a typical fall day with 45F temperature and 75% relative humidity produces an EQM of 17% for corn. Just a 3F temperature rise drops the relative humidity to 67% and the EQM to 15.3%.
Page 18
EQM Control EQM Conditioning Principles 9. Grain type variances Grain types absorb moisture differently. The same air that would produce 15% moisture for corn would produce 13% for wheat or soybeans. Also the amount of EQM air required to remove moisture in corn is much less than what is required to add the same amount of moisture.
EQM Control Components/Functions 1. Power Supply / Breaker The Power Supply / Breaker is located on a din rail in the control box and is the source for 110VAC and 24VDC to the EQM Board. The 110VAC will not receive power if the High Limit Thermostat is tripped or if the fan is not running (Heater power must be interlocked fan control).
EQM Control Setup and Operation 1. Connecting to your mobile device a. EQM Board The EQM board is equipped with a WiFi dongle that provides access to the EQM computing and database with a mobile device or laptop computer. When power is present on the EQM board the WiFi boots up (up to 2 min) and is then accessible.
Page 21
EQM Control Setup and Operation c. Setup on the dashboard The setup is unique to each bin and location. To fill in or change these parameters select “edit”. This is for basic information such as the name of the farm, bin location, bin number, number of rings, grain type, and EQM Target. There is also a button to permit setting the time in the event that the battery has lost power and the unit was turned off.
Page 22
EQM Control Setup and Operation This is the “Operation Limits” section, which are items such as the minimum and maximum relative humidity and temperature. This is the “Select the Sensors” section, which is selecting the type of Temp/RH sensors being used and if a heater is being used.
Page 23
EQM Control Setup and Operation This is the “Select the VFD” section, which is selecting the brand of VFD being used. Currently there is only the Vacon X5 Series being offered. After this screen, the next button brings you back to the basic information dashboard where you are given the opportunity to save all your edits.
Page 24
EQM Control Setup and Operation If Gages is selected from the dashboard, the current readings on the gages will be displayed. The limits will be shown in red on the dials. The current EQM will also be calculated and if the heat would be on and the butterfly valve position in this set of conditions if it were in the run mode.
Page 25
EQM Control Setup and Operation 2. Operation a. Run mode The primary operational settings to get started are: • Target EQM and Grain type • Minimum and maximum EQM o the maximum EQM is primarily for wet weather if the heater is unable to drive the ambient air EQM down to reasonable levels o if using a vfd, the minimum is of little consequence •...
Page 26
EQM Control Setup and Operation c. Advanced settings Access to the advanced settings is provided by a checkbox on the edit screen under basic information. It allows access to additional Operation Limits such as Minimum and Maximum EQM and Minimum and Maximum Fan RPM.
EQM Control Troubleshooting EQM not working: • Check to make sure all EQM settings are set properly. • Check EQM if Red light is on. • Check EQM if Green light is flashing indicating a WIFI signal Caution: The procedures outlined below are for use only by qualified service personnel. Use caution when checking electrical components.
EQM Control Electrical Schematic Note: 1) 120VAC Power Source supplied by end customer. 2) Heater must be interlocked through fan starter by connecting to EQM board as shown in schematic. It is the responsibility of the end customer to provide the interlocks. Failure to interlock heater through fan starter may lead to damage to heater in event of a fan shutdown and will void warranty.
Vacon VFD Connection to Heater Note: 1) 120VAC Power Source supplied by end customer. Separate Ground and Neutral will also need to be supplied. 2) Circuit Protection is provided by the VFD. The VFD is the control portion within and existing Branch Circuit 3) See Vacon VFD manual for proper instructions on connecting VFD.
GENRAL MAINTENANCE KEEP ALL GUARDS AND SCREENS IN PLACE DISCONNECT ALL POWER SOURCES BEFORE DOING ANY REPAIR, MAINTENANCE OR INSPECTIONS! BEGINNING OF EACH DRYING SEASON: Remove inlet screen. With power off, check for foreign material on fan blade. Turn fan by hand to be sure it rotates freely.
