The design for a ditch can be imported or created in the field by driving the intended route while capturing the existing surface. Based on the topography and on certain parameters input by the user, including minimum-slope, minimum-depth, optimum-depth, DITCH will calculate a plan of elevations where the ditch should be cut, display the design, and control the ditcher or blade.
Machine Control Solutions 1.1 Application DITCH displays information and direct interface ability along the left margin of the app screen and provides easy access to menu options along the right margin, as shown in the following pictures. Figure 1: Ditch Main Screen...

Save as creates a new project name.
When you select the (.job) extension, it will open all files created for that job. Upon exiting DITCH, you will be prompted to create a project file. If it is a new project, select New Folder and type in desired name, then select OK. Next, name your job while keeping the (.job) extension and select OK again.
Machine Control Solutions Example: Name project folder Smith and select OK. Then when you work in a smaller section of Smith, add another word to further distinguish it from Smith, call it Smith Area 1. Make sure to keep the (.job) extension. Select Save As when creating a project.
Machine Control Solutions d. Confirm that Minimum Collection Seconds (Settings in the Options Menu) is set to 60 (suggested) and Minimum Collection Points (Settings in the Options Menu) is set to 500 (suggested). e. Press the Start button to begin the collection process. f.
To use topo points sent from an emailing source you must download and then unzip them into a findable location. Now open the DITCH application, then the Topo Points setting and select Open, and find the folder containing the files. Select the file and open it.
Machine Control Solutions e. Press the Collect button in the left margin. f. Select the name of the topo file previously created and press OK. g. Choose Append to indicate that you want to continue the previous survey. h. The yellow dots from the previous task should appear. i.
Machine Control Solutions • When finished and at the home screen, you will see a deep orange color on the topo data where you were also collecting in the Profile page. 2.6 Surface A surface map is a (.nez) or (.tin) file that when loaded turns into a triangulated network. This network uses precision calculations to determine location of the receiver.
When uploaded, the DITCH bar in the left margin will display a value. As you walk around your curves/outlines with a GPS connected, you will see if you need to cut or fill to get the area on DITCH. Make your work more efficient pg.
• Select Remove to delete current opened line drawing file. 2.9 Refresh Refresh is used to reload DITCH. It is necessary to refresh after loading any files when not connected to a GPS unit and connected only to Internal GPS.

Table 11: About Page Options Checking Grade In DITCH DITCH is ideal for checking the distance between the surface you are working on and your design surface. The numerical difference is displayed along the left margin on the app screen. The color indicator is also a visual reference shown in Error! Reference source not found..
Machine Control Solutions d. Press the plus (+) or minus (-) buttons to raise or lower the cut/fill values to make an offset. 3.2 Resume Grade Checking a. Choose Project and then Save from the Options menu (⋮). b. Choose a file name and folder for your job and press OK. c.
Machine Control Solutions 4.2 Connecting To Machine Control You must have the router that comes with DITCH that is set-up for Wi-Fi and machine control in order to proceed. After it is set-up, you will be able to select Machine Control in the bottom left of the tablet screen.
Then we would export the data from WaterCourse Site Design (or another designing software) and import it into DITCH. The above picture is what a completed design surface would look like. Make sure to locate the design surface and any other data uploaded from your designing source, into the same project as the original control point, topo, surface, etc., for consistency.
Machine Control Solutions DITCH DITCH can make ditch paths or it can actually create a ditch after a design has been made using outside software. Use DITCH when you want to create shallow ditches in order to properly maintain the correct amount of waterflow on a job site.
Machine Control Solutions land using the real surface of the line you are creating to determine if the DITCH pass will work and roughly how much earth will need to be moved to make it drain properly. Figure 15: Drainage Parameters...
For example: if the ditch path was cut to be 5 feet deep, it would cut the 5 feet until you get to the end of the ends of the blade on the right or left side. Without setting the Path Width to a higher number allowing you to smooth, you would be left with a 5-foot drop where the blade ends.
Height Offset (height the blade will be above the ground when collecting data on the ditch) and set it to a value that will always be above the surface of the ground • Select Suppress Blade Height Offset on First Point to turn it on...
Page 40
• When finished creating the ditch, turn Machine Control in the bottom left hand margin on (will be checked) and lower your blade to the surface level at the end of the ditch • Complete passes in machine control using the offset buttons in the left margin if needed...
Page 41
• Raise the blade to the height specified in Blade Height Offset above ground • Go back to the main screen and select Capture Path and drive towards the ditch o Driving towards the ditch typically means you are driving downhill however it’s...
DITCH and then sent via Gmail to another user. To use Gmail from inside DITCH, make the data that is to be sent (surface file, topo, control points, a job, etc.), and then select the corresponding U.I. button and select Send. You will be brought to Gmail.
