    Carbon Media, the Canister Support Plate, and two Backdraft Dampers. The Carbon Canister, manufactured by Bay Products, Inc., is white in color and composed of 90- mil thick High-Density Polyethylene (HDPE). This canister has a porous bottom with a polypropylene carbon retention screen and a closed flat top with treated air release holes.
  • Page 6 The Canister Support plate, used for holding the Carbon Canister and mounting the Backdraft Dampers, is 24 inches in length, 24 inches in width and ½ inch in thickness and composed of Fiberglass Reinforced Plastic (FRP). The Backdraft Dampers (two per Manhole Odor Control Unit) are designed to allow atmospheric air in but prevent malodorous air from leaking out of the vent structure.

    ACTIVATED CARBON SAFETY PRECAUTIONS 1.A.2 Identification Information DESCRIPTION Activated Carbon is a Vapor Phase Virgin Activated Carbon that has been specially developed for odor removal (adsorbtion) from sewage treatment operations. This bituminous coal based product is unique in that it provides high adsorbtion capacity for H S without chemical impregnates and adsorbs volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in an effective manner.

    2.A Installation 2.A.3 Identify Trade Skill Level Required to Replace Carbon Media It is Bay Product’s recommendation that a Journeyman perform any media removal at the Manhole Odor Control Units to ensure proper Safety and Carbon Media Replacement and Disposal Procedures are followed. 2.A.4 Specify Any Special Rigging Required There is No Special Rigging required.

There is however a Bilco Hatch that covers the Odor Control components that does require occasional lubrication.

    Bay Products provided a Carbon Media Certification for the Media used in the Manhole Odor Control Units. 2.D.7 Data From Start-up and Testing The start-up and testing data available is from Bay Products as shown on its Media Certification. 2.D.8 Identify Test Method, Equipment and Procedure Used There is no testing required for the Manhole Odor Control Units.

    2.E Preventive Maintenance (PM) For Components Within An Equipment System 2.E.1 Inspection, Testing, Routine Adjustments and Lubrication Tasks There is no prescribed preventative maintenance other than the following steps: 1. Annual Inspection of each Manhole Odor Control Unit for proper operation. 2.
  • Page 31 For the Manhole Odor Control Unit Preventive Maintenance the following should be observed: 1. Fresh Activated Carbon Media should be ordered from Bay Products or from any of the other suppliers of Activated Carbon Media listed approximately three weeks prior to the normally scheduled annual inspections. This activated carbon media has a shelf life of 6 to 8 months and cannot be stock piled for longer periods.
