Purpose:
This procedure provides one-page quick reference guides for several basic operations involving
the Nova StatStrip
to easy-to-follow job aides and process charts.
While the information in these quick reference guides are accurate, the materials are presented
in a generalized and outlined format. Thus, staff are encouraged to always refer to the detailed
and complete versions of these procedures.
Safety Precautions:
1. Universal Safety Precautions should be adhered to when handling or using the
StatStrip
the StatStrip
can potentially transmit blood-borne pathogens between patients and healthcare
professionals.
2. Always wear a new pair of protective gloves before testing each new patient.
3. Only utilize single-use lancing devices. Do not re-use lancets.
4. Follow all operating instructions. Do not attempt to operate any equipment unless
training has been successfully completed

Need help?
Do you have a question about the StatStrip and is the answer not in the manual?
Questions and answers
If a patient Triglyceride level exceeds the posted threshold for interference and the recommendation is to test venous blood, does the elevated patient triglyceride still affect POC results if run on the NovaSTAT? Does the followup venous test need to be run in the main Laboratory? Does the result falsely elevate the POC glucose result or suppress the value? The concern is in a patient with increased Triglyceride levels requiring hourly glucose test values for glycemic management, what is the best way to obtain an accurate glucose result in a timely manner?
Elevated triglyceride levels can interfere with the accuracy of point-of-care (POC) glucose meter results, including those from the Nova StatStrip. This interference may cause incorrect glucose readings. Therefore, if abnormal or unexpected results are seen—especially in patients with known high triglyceride levels—a follow-up venous test in the main laboratory is necessary for accurate glucose measurement.
