1.
PURPOSE
Brake systems on mobile equipment are a critical safety device and there must be a procedure to
inspect record and manage.
The purpose of this procedure is to provide a standard to effectively perform a brake system
efficiency test on all mobile equipment.
2.
SCOPE
To regularly test the braking efficiency on all mobile equipment with the aid of the SIMRET Q 3000
Brake test unit and to recommend any maintenance that may be required.

RESPONSIBILITY
3.1
MEW Supervisor: to instruct competent artisan (auto electrician or diesel fitter) when to carry
out the required brake tests on the mobile equipment and action repairs to any defective
brakes.
3.2
MEW Artisan: to carry out the required test, and notify supervisor should there be any defects
in the braking system. Artisan to record test results on Job Ticket.
5.
SAFETY
3.1
A clearly demarcated area to prevent personnel and other mobiles from moving into the test
area.
3.2
Artisan must be licensed to operate the heavy mobile equipment that is to be tested and must
be trained to use Simret Q 3000 brake tester.
3.3
In the event that a mobile does not pass the required brake efficiency test. It must be parked
in safe place and isolated as per RBM standard until the fault has been rectified, re-tested
and should meet or exceed the minimum standard as set on item 6.
