    QUICK-START REFERENCE GUIDE This section is a short outline to remind users of some of the key operating ® functions. Please refer to USING audioShare beginning on page 12 for a complete description of all operating features. ® Note: On some older audioShare wall stations the ENTER key is labeled SEND.

    INTRODUCTION Your audioShare ® is the first all digital voice and music system. It does for your home communication needs what the Internet did for the personal computer. It uses patent-pending digital technology to create a true point-to-point, all-master audio network, combining features of music distribution systems, intercom systems, and adding many unique features, too.

    ® by making mistakes when pressing buttons. If all else fails, simply press END or CLEAR and start over again. Go ahead and experiment to discover how audioShare ® can work for you. Remember, you can't hurt or break it by pressing buttons (gently). Refer to Appendix A for troubleshooting.

    Include and Join Features One of the many unique features of audioShare ® that sets it apart from other systems is the ability to include other stations in a conversation or music broadcast after the initial connection has be made between other stations. This can be done in either of two ways using the “include”...

    • Enter destination address and press ENTER and start talking in hands-free mode, just like a speaker phone. audioShare ® normally operates in hands-free mode, similar a speaker phone. Not every environment is suited to hands-free operation, however. If one or more rooms has background noise such as a TV, radio, cooling fan, noisy children, etc.

    Privacy Features Note: all of the privacy features are “toggle” functions, meaning the same command will enable or disable them. Speaker Off – excludes the station from any All Call communications, except doorbell (see Doorbell Off below). • Press Function, then Spkr Off (An “S” will appear in the upper right hand corner of the screen to remind the user the speaker is disabled during All Call broadcasts.)     ® wall station will convert an analog signal to digital and distribute it over the network with undisturbed, high-quality sound. At the other end, you can select either the analog or digital output of the audioShare ® station to input to your chosen listening/recording device.

    MUSIC button, enter the source, and then enter the additional destination station address. It is necessary to identify the source each time because your audioShare ® may have more than one music source operating at a time.

    Note: Refer to the General Operating Rule on page 7. Local Loop-Back Mode Listen to Your iPod or Walkman without Earphones. See Appendix B: Music Interrupt If during a music broadcast between two or more stations, someone wants to make an intercom call to any of the stations involved in that broadcast, the music will be interrupted temporarily while the intercom call is being made.

    Remote 1. Press Function, then Remote. 2. When it asks, “Remote address?” enter address of remote station you want to control and press ENTER. 3. When the screen displays “Select Remote Function or Volume” select the desired function or turn volume knob to adjust volume of the remote station.

    System Settings Setting the Clock/Time “ ” Press Function then System then scroll the volume knob to Clock Menu and press ENTER • It asks to 1 change 24/AM-PM or 2 set time • To set time, enter time using 4 digits (e.g., 0845) then answer the AM/PM prompt that follows with a 1 or a 2, then press ENTER.

    • To temporarily override hands free operation while already in a ENTER ENTER conversation, press to talk. Release to listen. Backlight Dim Lighting levels vary from room to room so you may adjust the keypad and LCD screen backlight level to your liking. When any key is pressed or when the volume knob is adjusted, the backlight automatically changes to maximum brightness.

    Select Doorchime See Door Station Operation (page 26) Set Default Music Address You can preset a default music source address to work with the QuickTouch Music function. For example, if you have a music source such as a satellite receiver, CD player, MP3 player, etc. that is running all or most of the time that is connected to a specific wall station you can set that wall station’s address as a default music source.

    If you need to change a station address, follow the instructions under Changing Station Number (page 22). audioShare ® Your system includes a backup memory that restores all privacy and security (passcode) functions to their last known configuration prior to a power failure.

    ® ACCESSORIES The following accessories are available to enhance the usability of your audioShare ® system. Power Injector Module (PIM) The Power Injector Module is a less expensive alternative to a Hub. It is intended audioShare ® to provide power to smaller systems (up to 16 stations).
  • Page 30 ® The hub provides a main distribution point for the system and can be placed anywhere in the system in any combination of home run or daisy chain configurations. It provides power to all units in the system and networks all units together.

    WARNING: It is common practice to acid wash exterior brick or stone walls or to power wash homes with siding or stucco exteriors. Doing this with an audioShare ® door station installed will damage the unit. Resulting damage is not covered under the warranty. Always be sure to remove the unit and protect the Cat 5 wires and the RJ45 connectors before performing these washes.

    APPENDIX A Troubleshooting and Q&A Hands Free Operation Like any speakerphone, hands free operation works best in a quiet environment with minimal background noise. Home appliances such as vacuum cleaners, air conditioners, TVs, radios, stereos, etc. running in the background can disrupt (fake-out) the hands free operation.

    As with any audio system involving microphones and loudspeakers, it is possible to create a feedback situation. This can be destructive to the equipment if allowed ® audioShare to continue for too long. is automatically protected against both feedback and excessively loud operation. If excessively loud operation persists additional protection is provided by tripping the internal circuit breaker.

    The “ ” will be removed from the display indicating that the microphone is now turned on. Why does my music sound distorted when playing through the audioShare ® system? ® audioShare expects a standard line level input signal. The output of some audio devices, especially the earphone output, can be higher than line level.
  • Page 38 Digital Audio Error or CODEC Error – the station receiving audio (music or voice) can’t interpret the S/PDIF data stream due to bad wiring, defective hub, or (most likely) no digital audio input signal present at the transmitting station when in digital audio mode.

    For the Tech-Heads The following information is for the technically minded (Nerds - you know ® who you are) who want to utilize all of the cool features of audioShare ® Each audioShare wall station has RCA jacks on the back that provided analog and digital inputs and outputs for whatever audio device you want to connect and distribute throughout the house.
