ReplaceAIR UV-C HE Air-Cleaners
ReplaceAIR UV-C HE Model 500 – High Efficiency - Owner's Manual
1) General description and operation of the unit
GENERAL DESCRIPTION: The ReplaceAIR UV-C HE High Efficiency air-
cleaner is a stand-alone portable air cleaner. It has been designed
for use in classrooms and meeting rooms. Also, it is used anywhere
it is desired to minimize airborne pathogens from the ambient air.
The air cleaner draws dirty air from underneath the top cover, then
the air travels down inside the unit, cleaned with a two-stage
process. First, a disposable filters and then a primary UV-C emitter
bulb. Cleaned air exhausts from the bottom.
FIRST STAGE: The first cleaning stage consists of High Efficiency
disposable filters that are installed directly underneath the top
cover. First, a MERV 5 pre-filter, then two MERV 13 main filters.
These remove a higher range of particulates, including larger
amounts of bacteria and even some viruses, and they are best for
people suffering from breathing problems. Designed for their high
capturing capacity, they still maintain a low resistance to airflow. A
carbon pre-filter is optional.
PRIMARY STAGE: The primary cleaning stage uses UV-C light energy.
Ultraviolet C is a form of UV electromagnetic radiation with a
wavelength of 253.7 nm, shorter than that of visible light but longer
than X-rays. A high percentage of the airstream pathogens are killed
from proximity to the emitter bulb.
CONSTRUCTION: The cabinet is built primarily from Type 304 stainless steel. Unit ships completely assembled, is
easy to operate, and is simple to maintain. The base unit has approximate dimensions of 15" x 14" x 21" high,
which includes four swivel casters. The unit has a lighted power switch and 110V grounded power cord.
OPERATION: Lift the unit straight up out of the box, and place on the floor. Locate the unit in place, plugging cord
directly into a grounded wall outlet if possible. The power requirement is 110V @ 2.5A . Use only extension cords
that are 12-14 ga. and grounded. Use the green main rocker switch to power the unit on. Turn the main power
switch off when not using unit. The UV-C emitter bulb has a degrading service life, and the unit should be turned off
when not needed to clean the air.
