If the blades do not work on a John Deere 100 Series, possible issues could include:
1. The spindle brakes may not be disengaging properly. 2. The mower belt may be too loose or damaged. 3. The blade nut might not be properly torqued (should be 88 N·m or 65 lb-ft). 4. The PTO (Power Take-Off) may not be engaging. 5. The engine may be running at low speed or under poor conditions, affecting performance.
Blades should stop within approximately five seconds when disengaged; if not, service may be needed.

May 20, 2025
For a John Deere 100 Series with a 42-inch (107 cm) mower deck, the correct replacement belt is part number GX20072. The belt must be routed through both belt guides and under the mower belt and brake rod. The cable spring (J) should be attached to the idler sheave bracket (K), and the cable (L) should be pulled out to align the black end.

To engage the mower blades on a John Deere 100 Series:
1. Start the engine and let it run at half speed for a few minutes to warm up. 2. Lower the mower deck to the desired cutting height. 3. Push the throttle lever to the full throttle position. 4. Engage the mower: - If equipped with an electric attachment engagement switch, pull the switch up.
To adjust the deck wheels after setting the mowing height:
- The mower deck wheels should not touch the ground when leveling the deck. - Ensure the machine is on a flat, level surface and tires are properly inflated. - Adjust the front draft arm nut so that the front of the deck is 3–6 mm (1/8–1/4 in.) lower than the rear.

April 15, 2025
The engine could die when engaging the blades on a John Deere 100 Series due to:
- Choke partially engaged - Engine rpm not at wide open throttle - Restricted air flow - Belt installed incorrectly - Debris in sheaves - Worn belt - Belt tension incorrect
These issues can reduce engine performance or overload the system when the blades are engaged.

The Mower Blade Engagement mechanism has an electrical connection with 3 wires connection that engages the Blades. One of the Black wires has become disconnect. HOW do I reconnect it? Does the entire 3 wire connectors need be removed? Or does loose wire just slide into the 3-wire connector mechanism? In the Photo, the disconnect wire is below the black wire below the Blade-engagement mechanism. How do I fix this issue so the switch to engage the mower blades actually engaged & starts the mower blades? I am unable to upload my photo. I will try again on a follow-up e-mail.
