1 For your safety
1.1 General safety statements
● Before using this product, carefully read the Instructions for Use.
● Strictly follow the Instructions for Use. The user must fully understand
and strictly observe the instructions. Use the product only for the
purposes specified in the Intended Use section of this document.
● Do not dispose of the Instructions for Use. Ensure that they are
retained and appropriately used by the product user.
● Only fully trained and competent users are permitted to use this
product.
● Comply with all local and national rules and regulations associated
with this product.
● Only trained and competent personnel are permitted to inspect, repair
and service the product. Dräger recommend a Dräger service contract
for all maintenance activities and that all repairs are carried out by
Dräger.
● Properly trained service personnel must inspect this product as
detailed in the Maintenance section of this document.
● Use only genuine Dräger spare parts and accessories, or the proper
functioning of the product may be impaired.
● Do not use a faulty or incomplete product, and do not modify the
product.
● Notify Dräger in the event of any component fault or failure.
1.2 Definitions of alert icons
Alert icons are used in this document to provide and highlight text that
requires a greater awareness by the user. A definition of the meaning of
each icon is as follows:

2 Description
2.1 Product overview
The Dräger Lifeline (Fig 1) is a 30 m length of Kevlar line that has a
karabiner with a snap-lock gate fitted on to a loop at one end. The Lifeline
fits into a flame resistant pouch on the breathing apparatus waist belt, and
the karabiner connects to an anchor strap that is fitted on to the breathing
apparatus backplate.
The Lifeline is fitted in order to meet the International Maritime
Organization (IMO) equipment performance specifications on ships
carrying dangerous chemicals or liquefied gases in bulk. When the Lifeline
is fitted, the breathing apparatus constitutes an element of the set of safety
equipment in accordance with ISO 23269-2:2011 and 23269-3:2011 which
permit personnel to enter a gas-filled compartment and perform work
there.
2.2 Intended use
The Lifeline is intended to be fitted to Dräger breathing apparatus which
are approved to EN 137:2006 and certified under MED (96/98/EC).
The Lifeline can be fitted to only the following Dräger breathing apparatus:

○ PSS 7000
○ PSS ® 5000
○ PSS ® 3000
○ PAS ® Lite
The Lifeline is intended to be connected to a secure anchor point in order
to provide a guide for the wearer back to their point of origin, or to provide
a guide to the wearer for rescue.
2.3 Limitations on use
The Lifeline must not be used as a fall arrest device or as a work restraint
(a work restraint is a device to prevent a wearer from an entering an area
where a fall might occur).
3 Assembly instructions

Fitting this product may only be carried out by trained personnel
(attendance at an appropriate Dräger maintenance course is
required). Fitting by untrained personnel could make the breathing
apparatus unsafe for use.
1. Ensure that the breathing apparatus is in good condition before fitting
the Lifeline. The breathing apparatus must be inspected and
maintained as detailed in the product Instructions for use.
2. Fit the Lifeline pouch on to the waist belt in the position shown in Fig 1
as follows:
○ PSS 7000/5000. Disconnect the waist belt strap (Fig 2), and then
reconnect the strap, feeding it through the strap loops on the back
of the pouch.
○ PSS 3000 and PAS Lite. Remove the male or female buckle from
the waist belt. Feed the waist belt through the strap loops on the
back of the pouch and then refit the buckle.
3. Fit the anchor strap on to the side of the backplate (Fig 3).
4. Fully open the pouch and insert the line. Ensure the roll remains intact
during fitting.
5. Pull approximately 100 mm from the centre of the line and feed it
though the hole in the pouch (Fig 4).
6. Fit the karabiner under the Velcro strap in the pouch (Fig 5).
7. Connect the karabiner to the anchor strap (Fig 6).
8. Ensure that the end of the line is inside the compartment on the front
of the pouch (Fig 7).
9. Close the pouch flap

4 Use
4.1 During use

Comply with all local on-board instructions for suitable connection
points and in-use procedures.
Pull a length of the line from the compartment on the front of the pouch,
and securely attach the end of the line to a suitable anchor point (Fig 8).
○ The line pays out automatically as the wearer moves up to 30 m
away from the securing point.
4.2 After use
1. Clean the Lifeline (see Section 5.1) and inspect all parts for damage.
○ If the Kevlar line has any cuts, burns, abrasions, or any corrosion
or discoloration due to chemicals, replace the Lifeline (Dräger
order code: 3362313). Contact Dräger if there is damage to any
other Lifeline parts.

2. Rewind the line. Ensure that the line is wound flat and not twisted, with
the karabiner on the outside and the tie-end in the centre as shown

(Fig 9).
3. Refit and connect the Lifeline as described in Section 3.
5 Maintenance
Inspect and maintain the Lifeline as detailed in the maintenance
procedures in the breathing apparatus Instructions for Use.
5.1 Cleaning
When required, wash the line and pouch by hand using the cleaning
materials specified in the breathing apparatus Instructions for Use.
6 Storage
Store the Lifeline a cool dry environment, free from dust and dirt. Do not
expose to direct sunlight.
7 Disposal
When required, dispose of the Lifeline in accordance with national or local
regulations for waste disposal.
