In an effort to deploy next-generation services
while leveraging the existing network infra-
structures, carriers are looking for solutions
that control cost, promote efficiency, and
simplify operations. The ADTRAN
Access
®
1248 is a temperature-hardened
DSLAM that enables delivery of up to 48 ports
of POTS and ADSL/ADSL2/ADSL2+ from
smaller central offices, controlled environ-
mental vaults, multiple dwelling units, and
remote terminals.
The ADSL/ADSL2/ADSL2+ is generated
locally and placed, via onboard splitters, on
the same pair as the corresponding POTS
signal for delivery to the customer. The
IP DSLAM terminates a Gigabit Ethernet
network connection for video and data. This
compact, 1U high unit provides RT space
savings while offering multiple options for
placement within the RT. Design flexibility
leverages existing facilities and enables the
Total Access 1248 to be mounted as a rack,
wall, or vertical positioned unit inside
the RT. It measures 1.75 in. H x 17.25 in.
W x 11.125 in. D and offers redundant
power using -42 to -56 VDC.
Two different models of the 1248 Mini-
DSLAM are available: one with a fixed
10/100/1000Base-T copper Gigabit Ethernet
interface or an SFP module interface
accepting copper or 1000 Base-X fiber SFP
modules. The IP Mini-DSLAMs also incor-
porate a wide array of triple-play enabling
features including Bonded ADSL2+, multicast
replication, DHCP Option 82, and PPPoE
Intermediate Agent. With a standard Gigabit
Ethernet interface, the unit is interoperable
Total
with any Gigabit Ethernet aggregation
®
switch or router. The Gigabit Ethernet uplink
provides a non-blocking architecture to
ensure adequate bandwidth for next
generation services.
Developed with concern for carrier field
needs, the Total Access 1248 has pre-installed
fan modules complete with fan filters. Each
fan module and fan filter is independently
field-replaceable. The fans are controlled by
heat-sensing circuits and will run only when
necessary. Front panel access is available
for all connections.
Management is made simple and conve-
nient through a choice of SNMP , ASCII, TL1,
or 10Base-T Ethernet support. Provisioning,
alarms, and performance monitoring are
provided through the local craft interface
and IP in-band management channel.
ADTRAN's Total Access 1248 IP Mini-
DSLAM brings cost-effective and efficient
ADSL and POTS solutions to carriers
providing subscriber services at rural CO,
MDU, CEV, and RT sites.
