I held the mode button down for 3 seconds and now there is a amber light on, does this mean the is in reconditioning mode

No, the amber (solid) fault LED indicates that the battery voltage is too low (<1.5 V) to activate the charger. It does not indicate that the charger is in reconditioning mode.
