SPEAKER BAR SETUP GUIDE

INTRODUCTION

The External Speaker Bar is an add-on module for the Konnekt Videophone. It is used to increase volume when the Videophone speakers
are not loud enough, or to improve audio quality for those that find the standard speakers have too much treble or sound "tinny". The
External Speaker Bar can provide a significant increase in volume, and provides improved sound quality with more bass tones.
The External Speaker Bar is a Cyber Acoustics model CA-2880. It has been chosen for use with the Videophone due to the sound quality
and volume, but also because it conforms to the Konnekt philosophy of simplicity, and reliability.
It derives power from a standard USB port. It therefore does not need charging and cannot accidentally go flat.
It has a real power switch, instead of an automated "soft" switch, so it powers up when the Videophone turns on.
No USB audio drivers or setup required. Sound is instead obtained from the Videophone 3.5mm Audio Out socket.
Volume can be adjusted using a physical volume knob on the top. No computer skills required.

Installation Tips

To avoid audio feedback / echo and to reduce echo-suppression artefacts (such as "one way at a time" speech), the Speaker Bar
must not be installed close to the microphone, and the speakers should be aimed away from the microphone.
If necessary, cover the Power Switch and Volume Knob with electrical tape or similar, to prevent accidental adjustment or
switching off by the Videophone user.
If the blue LED is too bright at night, cover it with a small piece of black electrical tape or similar.
However, DO NOT cover the entire speaker bar or any part of the Videophone with cloth or other objects.

Important Note

The External Speaker Bar plugs into the 3.5mm Audio Out socket on the Videophone. Once plugged into the Audio Out socket, the
Videophone speakers become de-activated, and all audio gets redirected to the External Speaker Bar.
So please be aware that NO SOUND WILL BE HEARD if
the Speaker Bar is unplugged from the USB port or the Power Switch is turned off, or
the Speaker Bar volume knob is set to zero

  • Page 2 SPEAKER BAR SETUP GUIDE CHOOSING AN INSTALLATION LOCATION If using the optional plug-in microphone, then the recommended placement of the Speaker Bar is on the top right of the Videophone. This provides maximum distance between the Speaker Bar and plug-in microphone, and faces the speakers towards the Videophone user. If using the default internal microphone (located at top-centre just to the left of the camera), then the Speaker Bar is best placed either beneath or beside the base of the Videophone, or clamped onto the lower right edge of the Videophone.
  • Page 3 SPEAKER BAR SETUP GUIDE Mounting to Suit a Custom Bracket If you have supplied your own bracket to mount Videophone onto a wall (for example) and need to ensure that the Speaker Bar is installed behind the Videophone out of sight, you may need a customised installation of the Speaker Bar. With some brackets, it is possible to simply clamp the Speaker Bar onto a section of bracket, and carefully route cables.
