  • Page 4 Introduction If you have never installed a Nexia-compatible connected control before, the idea of working with Z-Wave modules and Wi-Fi routers may sound intimidating. The fact is, it’s a lot simpler than you think. You just have to be familiar with all of the steps involved and make sure you have everything you will need on hand before you start the job.

  • Page 6 Be Prepared There are few things worse than discovering halfway through an installation that you don’t have everything you need to get the job done. It adds unnecessary time to the job and doesn’t send the right message to the homeowner about your business.

Set basic menu settings on the control, such as time, temperature range, etc.

Do not accept the terms and conditions on the homeowner’s behalf. step 3: fill in the account/purchase information screen. Enter the requirement information on the account setup page.

Open the confirmation e-mail and click the link inside the e-mail to confirm the account setup. step 5: log in to the homeowner’s nexia account. The e-mail link will take the homeowner back to the account login page.
  • Page 13 2. Enter the home address. This information will be securely stored and is only to help customize the Nexia system based on the homeowner’s location. For example, the homeowner can schedule activities triggered by sunrise and sunset based on their home’s location. ADD PRODUCTS TO THE HOMEOWNER’S ACCOUNT.

Review the “Getting Started” overview list. 5. Click Continue. ADD THE NEXIA HOME BRIDGE. add the nexia home bridge to the homeowner’s nexia account.
  • Page 15 connect the bridge to the wireless router. 1. Use an (RJ-45) Ethernet cable to connect the Bridge to the router, then plug the Bridge power supply into an AC outlet. (Note: If all LAN ports on the router are full, you will need to add a switch. Please refer to the Glossary for more details.) 2.
  • Page 16 Local enrollment option step 1: enroll the thermostat into the bridge. 1. Disconnect the Nexia Home Bridge from the router and AC power. 2. Insert a fresh 9V battery to power the Bridge during local enrollment. 3. Carry the Bridge over to the thermostat module. Hold the Bridge within 6 feet (1.8 meters) of the thermostat during the following enrollment process.
  • Page 17 step 3: rename the thermostat. 1. Select the new thermostat. 2. Change the thermostat’s name to something descriptive of its location and/or function; for example, “Living Room Thermostat.” The homeowner can change the name later if s/he wishes. step 4: plug an appliance module into a live ac outlet. Choose an AC outlet located approximately halfway between the Bridge and thermostat and not blocked by large metal objects such as a refrigerator, stove, or filing cabinet.
  • Page 18 step 6: confirm that the appliance module was enrolled into the bridge. 1. Reconnect the Bridge to AC power and the router. (Remove the battery only after you have completed enrolling all devices and thermostats.) The Bridge will automatically update the Nexia server about the new module.

  • Page 22 step 1: create a nexia home intelligence account. Visit www.nexiahome.com on the homeowner’s computer. Click Get started here. step 2: accept the terms and conditions.   • Page 23 step 3: fill in the account/purchase information screen. Enter the requirement information on the account setup page. Be sure to enter the homeowner’s e-mail address. The Nexia portal will send a confirmation e-mail to this account. The customer must acknowledge receiving this confirmation to complete the account setup.
  • Page 24 step 5: log in to the homeowner’s nexia account. The e-mail link will take the homeowner back to the account login page. The homeowner must enter the username and password they chose during account setup. step 6: enter the account information. 1.

  • Page 27 COMPLETE SETUP AND TEST. 1. Continue to click through the setup wizard with the customer. 2. Enter any additional information requested until the Nexia dashboard page is shown. 3. Click the Climate tab. 4. View the new thermostat. Verify that changes made using Nexia are reflected on the thermostat itself.

  • Page 30 Enroll Z-Wave Devices Into an Existing Gold XV/Platinum XV Thermostat The Gold XV/Platinum XV include a Z-Wave Home Bridge Inside which allows these thermostats to support the full set of Nexia home automation features when used with additional Z-Wave hardware (lights, locks, sensors, etc.). If a customer has Z-Wave devices, use the following steps to enroll the devices into the Home Bridge Inside.

It will continue searching for up to 4 minutes or until it finds a new device, whichever comes first. 4. Follow the enrollment process (normally a button push or similar action on the device you want to enroll).

    Troubleshooting If the Gold XV/Platinum XV you install has intermittent Wi-Fi connectivity and/ or fluctuating signal strength, try one of the following: 1. Improve the Wi-Fi signal with one of these options: a. Move the Wi-Fi router to a more central location. b.

  • Page 37 REGISTER THE THERMOSTAT ONLINE. Registration is required for Weather, Software Updates and linking two or more thermostats together. Here are the basic steps: 1. In the Network Setup screen, select Register Now. 2. Read and accept the License Agreement. 3. Enter the customer’s e-mail address into the E-mail Registration screen, then click Apply.
  • Page 38 SET THE HOMEOWNER’S ZIP CODE ON THE THERMOSTAT. Go to the Weather tab on Platinum ZV and enter the homeowner’s zip code. This will enable the thermostat to display local weather conditions and local time. SET UP THE NEXIA HOME INTELLIGENCE HOMEOWNER ACCOUNT.
