Speakeasy v4BT
Self-contained Speaker System
The Speakeasy v4BT is a self-contained, battery-powered speaker with mic, line and instrument level
inputs, and an integrated Bluetooth receiver for wireless playback of audio. It is housed in a cast
aluminum enclosure with a durable black finish and features an improved audio signal path for better
clarity and faithful sound reproduction, as well as a new power amplifier running a bi-amped speaker
configuration. The Speakeasy v4BT drivers are magnetically shielded, allowing operation near sensitive
equipment.
Powering
The Speakeasy v4BT will operate on two 9V batteries, typically for a full day of intermittent use. It will also
operate from an external 9 - 18VDC power source on its coaxial power connector (2.1 x 5.5mm, center
pin positive). The internal battery is switched out of circuit when plugging in external power so there is no
need to remove the battery when using external power.
Line Level Input
The line level input is for balanced signals of +4dB, though unbalanced signals may be used. An XLR /
1/4" TRS combo jack is provided for convenience, and is wired in the standard balanced configuration of
Pin 1/Sleeve = Ground, Pin 2/Tip: Audio Hot (+), Pin 3/Ring: Audio Cold (-).
Microphone Level Input
The XLR mic level input will accept a balanced mic level signal, and will directly accommodate a dynamic
microphone. Powering for condenser mics is not available. The microphone input has 40dB of gain
available, accessible on the rear panel with a small flat-bladed screwdriver.
Instrument Level Input
The Speakeasy v4BT will accommodate an unbalanced instrument-level signal on a 1/4" TS connector.
The impedance of this input is 1Mohm, which is suitable for use with passive electric guitar pickups or
active guitar preamp systems without "loading down" the pickups and causing high frequency roll-off.
Instruments with very hot outputs, such as electric guitars with overwound humbucker pickups, may
cause distortion. In that case, the guitar's volume control should be adjusted to minimize distortion.
All audio inputs are isolated from each other and therefore may be used at the same time. For example, a
line level input can be used for music playback while the mic input is used for cueing.
Bluetooth Operation
The Speakeasy v4BT is equipped with a built in bluetooth receiver module for wireless audio playback. It
has a range of >30 ft. depending on the environmental factors. It features a simple two button interface
with two status LEDs.
Power on the Bluetooth Module
The volume potentiometer on SpeakEasy front grill must first be turned to the ON position. Then hold the
CONNECT button for 2 seconds. The module will power up with an audible 4 note chime (ascending) and
the
Blue
STATUS LED will flash slowly 3 times.
Note: If the SpeakEasy v4BT is within range of a previously paired device(s), it will automatically try to
reestablish a connection with the last used device upon power-up.
Power off the Bluetooth Module
Hold the CONNECT button for 4 seconds. The module will power down with the audible 4 note chime
(descending) and the
Blue
STATUS LED will flash quickly 4 times.
