ESA-1000 USER MANUAL 1. GENERAL INFORMATION 1.1 About Energy Solutions Air (ESA) is a Canadian manufacturer that specializes in making Heat Recovery Ventilators (HRV’s) also known as heat exchangers. These HRV’s are designed and proven to help improve animal welfare, air quality, reduce greenhouse gases emissions and heating costs. Feel free to visit our website anytime at www.esair.ca We thank you for purchasing your ESA-1000 heat exchanger(s). We require that you read this manual carefully before proceeding with the installation and start-up of your heat exchanger(s). Installation and use that does not comply with the instructions in this manual are hazardous, may cause damage to your building, and will void your product warranty. Installations may vary depending on the position in which the unit(s) are installed. The illustrations in this document may differ slightly from your installation. Use the illustrations...

You read the instructions in this manual before you start installing the heat exchanger(s). The ESA-1000 heat exchanger is a heavy piece of equipment and must be installed safely and securely. If you have any doubts about your ability or how to install the heat exchanger(s), don’t hesitate to contact ESA.
  • Page 6 ESA-1000 USER MANUAL and comply with electrical codes and standards in the province or state where the unit(s) are being installed. 8. The unit(s) must not be installed within 3 feet of a furnace or other heat generating device. 9. Do not connect directly to any mechanical, electrical, control device, combustion equipment and other air inlets or outlets without consulting with ESA. 10. Do not use to vent dangerous, explosives or flammable substances.

Installations may vary depending on the model number and the position in which the unit is installed. The illustrations in this document may differ slightly from your installation. Use the illustrations only as general guidelines. 3.1.3 Inspection of parts Inspect all parts and remove any debris and report any loose or damaged parts to ESA immediately. 3.1.4 Position of the Heat Exchanger(s) in the building The heat exchanger(s) can be installed on either side of your building, however the ideal place to install them depends on several parameters. It’s therefore strongly suggested to consult with an ESA certified representative to determine the optimal position for your type and size of building. Gather and transmit the following details when speaking with your ESA...

To prevent irregular operation of the ESA Controller, please note the following: • The ESA Controller should be installed by an accredited electrician. • Never install more than one ESA Controller per device. • Keep the low-voltage control wires at least 1 foot away from any high voltage wires/equipment. • Make sure the wires are connected securely. Before fixing the ESA Controller to the wall: 1. Unscrew the 4 screws from then ESA Controller interface panel. 2. Unplug the interface panel and place it in a safe place 3. Drill three holes under the ESA Controller housing. Be careful not to drill directly under the electrical terminals of the ESA Controller to avoid damaging them. 4. Install a ½ inch cable gland in each hole (see IMAGE 11). IMAGE 11 To fix the ESA Controller to the wall: 1. Level the ESA Controller and install it on the right side of the heat exchanger. 2. Screw the ESA Controller to the wall using the screws provided by ESA and screw the four corners of the case.

NOTE: For optimum efficiency, it is advisable to service the unit periodically. 6.1 Regular maintenance To do between each flock/herd (38-40 days). 1. Turn off the power. 2. Detach the fasteners between the Plenum and the exchange module. 3. Separate the Plenum from the SS Housing.
  • Page 40 ESA-1000 USER MANUAL 4. Lower the SS housing into a vertical position by removing the hooks from the right side. 5. Remove the Dispenser at the end of the unit by removing the two clips and pulling out on the Dispenser. Place it in a safe place (with its 2 screws). 6. Remove the Heat Exchanger Core from the SS Housing.
  • Page 41 ESA-1000 USER MANUAL 7. Clean the outside of the Heat Exchanger Core. You can use compressed air or water. You can do this cleaning inside the building or outside. You can also decide to insert a spare Heat Exchanger Core if you have one. 8. Clean the inside of the SS Housing if you notice a lot of dirt. This step does not influence the efficiency of the heat exchanger. 9. If necessary, clean the Dispenser with a damp cloth and wipe with a dry cloth.
