    • The Defender system must be installed either in the press brake factory, or by specialist technicians trained by Lazer Safe (or its authorised representatives). • The operator must be fully conversant with the operation of the press brake and the risks associated with it, as well as the operation of the Defender Press Brake Guarding System.

    Defender Press Brake Guarding System Operation Manual LS-CS-M-069 System Components The system contains the following components: • LZS-1 Transmitter/Receiver pair. • PGS-2 Safety Controller. • Defender User Interface Panel. • Optical Rotary Encoder. • Bracket System for the LZS-1 Transmitter and Receiver.

    Defender Press Brake Guarding System Operation Manual LS-CS-M-069 These sensors are divided into three zones that represent the front, middle and rear of the laser plane (the FR, MI, RE signals). If an obstruction blocks the laser light to any of the sensors, the receiver will turn off the appropriate signal, and the PGS-2 controller will immediately disable downward movement of the press beam.

    The laser to punch distance is displayed in mm, and you must ensure that the laser is set to this distance below the punch tip. Refer to Lazer Safe Alignment Reference Guide (LS- CS-M-017) for a step by step description of how to fully align the laser.

The operator must release and press the pedal again. The system will force the tools to close in safe speed only with the optical protection muted and display the message LASERS INACTIVE until the bend is completed.

    Defender Press Brake Guarding System Operation Manual LS-CS-M-069 Back Gauge Mode Back Gauge mode is used in cases where the back gauge of the press brake is moving forward far enough to obstruct the rear sensor. When Back Gauge mode is enabled, the rear sensor is muted 16mm above the normal mute point, allowing the back gauge to enter the work space without causing an obstruction.

    Initial Alignment When the system is first installed, a complete alignment of the laser transmitter and receiver is required. Refer to Lazer Safe Alignment Reference Guide (LS-CS-M-017) for detailed step by step instructions on how to perform a full alignment.
  • Page 22 Figure 4-3: Tool Locator Tabs To assist in setting the laser to punch distance correctly, Lazer Safe provides magnetic alignment cards, which are supplied with adhesive backed tool locator tabs. The tool locator tabs can be stuck onto the alignment card at the laser to punch distance. The operator can then attach the magnetic alignment card to the punch, locating the tool tip in the centre groove of the locator tab.
