Flying Scot Centerboard Cable Instructions

Tip: The replacement of the centerboard cable is most easily done with the board down, at least partially, so
the cable is slack.

Removing Old Cable

1. While the cable is slack, lay under the portside of the foredeck and disconnect the shackle anchoring the
cable to the centerboard trunk
Note: Watch your hands as the cable will have broken strands
2. Pull the cable free of the centerboard
3. Cut the cable 12" from the centerboard winch shaft and push the cable out of the port end of the winch shaft

Installing New Cable

1. Take the bare end of the cable and feed it through the hole in the middle of the winch shaft making sure to
feed the cable out to PORT
2. Pull out enough cable to allow you to tie an overhand knot in the end of the cable
3. Hold the end of the cable beyond the knot with a pair of pliers and pull the other end of the cable to draw the
knot back into the shaft
4. Give a hard pull to set the knot
