Kartus for further instructions. 3.4 W A R N IN G for W heelchair U se As a manufacturer of wheelchairs suitable for outdoor use, Kartus strives to offer you the best possible product. However, it is both the user’s and qualified health care professional's responsibility to choose their appropriate wheelchair type.
DO NOT stand on wheelchair frame. ALWAYS keep hands and fingers away from moving parts to avoid injury. DO NOT attach any objects to the backrest other than parts provided by Kartus. DO NOT tilt the chair without assistance. NEVER use leg guards for lifting or during wheelchair transfers.
ENGLISH 4.3 Stairs and Sidew alks The Kartus wheelchair is not designed to go down stairs or sidewalks with a seated passenger. DO NOT use escalator to change floors with the wheelchair. This could result in a serious injury. 4.4 D escending Slopes Proper speed and direction control of the Kartus chair is vital while descending.
4.9 O utdoor Environm ent DO NOT operate this wheelchair on slippery surfaces such as snow or ice, unless equipped with appropriate Kartus accessories. Be extremely careful when traveling on wet or slippery surfaces. When in doubt, do not hesitate to ask for help.
ENGLISH 5. OPERATION Folding and U nfolding the B ackrest Remove the side screws while holding the backrest firmly in place at the side guards. Once removed, there are three possible backrest tilting positions to choose from. The user will determine the best fit depending on his or her condition and comfort level. Always make sure to insert the screw properly to minimize the risk of injury.
ENGLISH R ear W heels Insert the disc into the brake (1) and insert the threaded hub to hold the wheel in place, then screw hub in place until tightened (2). Over tightening could damage the allen hole. Use the 6mm allen key for this procedure.
ENGLISH Leg Guards The leg guards can be easily removed to ensure easier transfers. The 6mm allen key can be used to remove the screws from the guards. 5.5 A djustable H andlebar The handlebar is height adjustable to accommodate all types of riders. The allen wrench adjusts the two cross screws that tighten the stem to the backrest tube.
ENGLISH 6. MAINTENANCE, SUGGESTIONS AND WHEELCHAIR STORAGE W A R N IN G R epair and M aintenance Unless instructed otherwise, all maintenance and adjustments must be done on an empty chair. P aint Job Clean the chair’s paint job with mild soap or mild detergent with water, using a cloth, sponge or non-abrasive brush.
