APRS Set Up (Band A)

This uses the internal APRS capabilities of the radio; no computer required.

Turn the radio ON.

Press the "F" key to access the Setup Menu

Press the MHz knob (large tuning knob)

Turn the knob to select APRS

Press the knob again to enter the Menu Selection Mode

Basic Setting Menu #600

Enter your call sign with SSID

Set the Beacon Type to APRS

Turn the MHz knob to scroll through the menus

Do not make any changes. Leave all settings at "Default." Be sure that 1200 Bps

(on air baud rate) is selected.

GPS Port Menu #602 (external GPS only)

Change the baud rate to match the GPS

Set the input to "GPS"

Set the Output to "Waypoint."

Waypoint Format Menu #603

Set format to "Kenwood."

Change NAME to "9-CHAR"

The Output setting should be set to "ALL"

Beacon Information Menu #606 (Mobile)

Speed setting should be turned ON

Altitude setting should be turned ON

Position Ambiguity should be turned OFF

Set the Method to "Auto"

Internal GPS (G model only)

Press the "F" key to access the Setup Menu

Press the "GPS" key to toggle the GPS on or off.

Set Coordinates (Fixed Station)

Access Menu #616, enable DIGIPEAT and RELAY
