Crawl Space Alert Installation
Functionality
Crawl Space Alert
The amber colored warning-lamp will glow when the crawl space humidity is out of control. The
homeowner must be instructed to check this lamp periodically and to give their contractor a call if this
lamp turns on.
Dehumidifier safety shutoff (connection and use of this feature are optional)
If water in the condensate pump reservoir rises to the point of triggering the top level overflow switch,
power to the dehumidifier will turn off. This can help avoid creating a large puddle of water if the
condensate pump motor fails or the discharge hose becomes blocked.
Installation
1. Mounting
Mount the Crawl Space Alert at least 24" above ground. Avoid mounting to an exterior wall. Exterior
walls are likely to interfere with the operation of the Crawl Space Alert due to the influence of outdoor
temperatures.
2.
Enable overflow shutoff (connection and use of this feature are optional)
Route the gray 2-wire cable (8ft available) to the condensate pump. Connect one wire to one terminal of
the overflow switch and the remaining wire to the other terminal. Although one wire is red and the other
black, the two are interchangeable. This connection is typically accomplished using wire nuts. Plug the
dehumidifier (max of 12amps) and condensate pump into the outlets located on the side of your Crawl
Space Alert.
To confirm functionality of the overflow shutoff: While the dehumidifier is operating, lift up on the safety
float switch or turn the pump up side down. If everything is working properly, the dehumidifier will turn
off.
If the operation is backwards (dehumidifier turns on when the safety float switch trips), then the pump
switch terminals will need to be swapped. Most pump switches have three terminals yet only connect
wires to two. One of your wires was probably connected to the Normally Open terminal. You must
change it to the Normally Closed terminal. Check the functionality again.
3. Powering up
Plug the Crawl Space Alert power cord (8ft available) into a dedicated 15 amp GFCI outlet.
4. Warning lamp install
Consider who will check for warnings and locate it at a good viewing angle. Select the location for the
warning lamp (40ft of wire is available). The mounting plate provided can be flush mounted or bracket
mounted.
Flush mount: Flex the tab until it breaks away from the plate. Drill a 1/2"
diameter installation hole. Insert lamp through the hole. Slide mounting plate
over wires, centering the lamp in the plate. Fix the plate to the surface using
adhesive or a screw.
Bracket mount: Bend mounting tab to the desired angle for mounting with a
screw.
Anchor the wire along its length. Bundle and secure any extra wire, out of harms way.
5. Installation verification
Be sure to confirm that the installation is in good working condition and operates as desired.
To reduce the risk of electric shock, this product has a grounding type plug that has a third (grounding)
pin. This plug will only fit into a grounding type power outlet. If the plug does not fit into the outlet,
contact a qualified electrician to install the proper outlet. Do not change the plug in any way.
