PROCEDURE:
1. Turn the power switch on and wait for the "READY" light to illuminate. This should
take 30 minutes. The germinator will be at 450°F (232°C).

2. Clean and dry the instruments thoroughly to avoid baking and adhesion of
contaminants to the instrument.
3. Gently insert the instrument at least one inch into the glass beads. Do not force the
instrument to the bottom of the glass beads. Only the surface touching the beads is
decontaminated.
4. Smaller instruments should be allowed to stand for at least 15 seconds, while larger
instruments should stand for at least 1 minute.
5. If more than one instrument is inserted into the glass beads, double the
decontamination time based on the instrument size. Do not insert more than two
normal size micro-dissecting instruments to prevent overloading.
Do not overheat for a long period of time to avoid degradation of metal.}
{NOTE:
6. Stir the glass beads periodically with a metal spatula or other metal instrument to
avoid growth of heat resistant microorganism.
7. Remove instrument from the device and tap it lightly on the side of the glass bead
well to remove any beads that may stick to the instrument. (Use a small probe to
remove excess beads if tapping does not work.) Place the instrument on a clean
stainless steel tray and allow it to cool before use.
: Use a heat resistant device to remove the instrument if left in the unit for a long
{NOTE
time.}
8. Leave the Germinator 500 "ON" for the duration of its anticipated use to keep the
temperature of the beads constant. If the device is turned off for more than 30
minutes, and the "Ready" sign comes on when the unit is turned back on, wait 15
minutes for the unit to reach its proper operating temperature.
9. When finished with the unit for the day, turn the power switch off.
WARNING:
DO NOT USE HOLLOW METAL INSTRUMENTS IN THE GERMINATOR 500.
HOLLOW METAL INSTRUMENTS MAY EXPLODE OVER 300°F AND SPRAY HOT GLASS BEADS
