The normal clearance for single-wall stovepipe to a combustible mantel is 18". The normal
clearance from an unlisted stove or insert to a combustible mantel is 36". The mantel shield
allows you to reduce clearances to 9" for stovepipe and 18" for a stove or insert per NFPA 211
standard and the International Residential Code.

Drill

" Drill Bit

Phillips Screwdriver
Tin Snips or Offset Shears

Installation Tips:

1. Make certain that the Mantel Shield extends to the far rear of the mantel so the entire
mantel is protected.
2. To alter the face pitch, carefully bend the Mantel Shield.
3. The Mantel Shield can be cut to length if desired. If cutting, it will be necessary to drill new
screw holes in the Shield.

Instructions:

1. Place the Mantel Shield under the mantel making sure the entire mantel is protected and
mark on the mantel where your first screw hole should be drilled.
2. Using a
hole. Insert a screw through the
Mantel Shield and a ceramic
spacer, and into the hole. Tighten
the screw.
3. Then use another hole in the
Mantel Shield as a pilot to drill a
second hole in the mantel. Fasten with a screw and spacer. Continue drilling holes and
fastening screws one at a time.
4. Tighten all screws.
