1.: Allgemeines
Der Bausatz „Magic Eye Winker" ist für den Betrieb mit allen
noch leicht erhältlichen Magischen Fächern / Bändern der
80er Serie bestimmt. Durch Lötbrückenkann der Bausatz
den verschiedenen Sockelbeschaltungen auf einfachste
Weise angepasst werden. Die Stromversorgung kann ent-
weder über USB oder externen Anschluss vorgenommen,
wobei bei externer Einspeisung sogar die Möglichkeit be-
steht, durch unterschiedlich hohe Versorgungsspannungen
Röhrentypen mit abweichender Heizspannung, z.B. UM80
mit 19 V zu betreiben.
Ein Trimmer ermöglicht die stufenlose Justage des
„Schattenwinkels", wobei die Reaktion auf eine Änderung
der Einstellung „röhrentypisch" langsam von statten geht.
2.: Verwendbare Röhrentypen
In der „Standard-Variante" mit USB- oder 5...6 V externer Ein-
speisung (z.B. 4 x AA Batterien oder NiMH-Akkus) sind nach-
folgende Röhren einsetzbar:
EM80 / EM81 / EM85 / 6BR5 / 6DA5 / 6E1 / 6E1P* / 6DH7 / EAM86 / 6GX8
PM84 / EM84 / EM87 / EM800 / 6E2 / 6E3P* / 4FG6 / 6FG6 / 6HU6
Bei 12V externer Spannungsversorgung **
Bei 18V externer Spannungsversorgung ***
* nicht für USB, sondern nur für 6V Batterie geeignet.
** bevorzugt über ein stabilisiertes Netzteil 12V 1A.
*** auch diese Röhren arbeiten bereits bei 12V einwandfrei,
bei 18V Versorgung mit z.B: 2 x 9V Blocks in Reihe geschal-
tet ist jedoch eine kleine Modifikation in der Schaltung nötig.
Die Stromaufnahme richtet sich nach dem Heizstrom der
Röhren plus ca. 50mA für die Hochspannungserzeugung;
d.h. bei USB-Spannungsversorgung werden rund 350mA
benötigt. Obwohl moderne USB-Anschlüsse an PCs in der
Lage sind, bis zu 500mA bereitzustellen, kann durch den
hohen Anlaufstrom der Röhren beim Einschalten eine ein-
wandfreie Funktion nicht garantiert werden. Es wird daher
die Verwendung eines USB-Y-Kabels empfohlen.

1.: Abstract
The „Magic Eye Winker" kit can be used for all available Magic
Eye tubes of the 80´s series.
Thanks to solder bridges the kit can be easily adopted to the
different socket circuits of the Magic Eye tubes.
The PCB is designed to work with different ways of power
supplies eg. with an USB connector, an external power supply
or by using (rechergable) batteries. By using the external
power the circuit can also be powered by a higher voltage
needed for the heater of some tubes, e.g. UM80 with 19V
filament voltage.
With a potentiometer you can easy modify the angle of the
„swinging" screen. It ist typical for a tube circuit that it reacts
slowly to the trimming.
2.: Which type of „Magic Eye Tubes" can be used
If you want to power via the USB or 5...6V external supply (e.g.
by 4 x AA (rechergable) batteries) in the „standard version" of
this kit, you can drive the following types of Magic Eye Tubes:
When external powering with 12V **
When external powering with 18V ***
* not recommendet for USB power, only for 6V batterie.
** a stabilized 12VDC 1A power supply is preferred.
*** even these tubes will work fine on 12V power. When
powering with 18V (e.g. 2 x 9V batteries in series) a slightly
modification of the circuit is necessary.
The current consumption of the complete circuit is most
depending on the heater current plus 50 mA for generating
the high voltage. So you need about 350 mA by using the
USB connector. Even modern PCs will supply 500mA it may
be possible that the circuit might not work due to the high
inrush current of the tubes. So it is recommended to use a
USB Y-cable with two USB connectors to power the Magic
Eye Winker from a PC.
