    3150 Remote via the 7BI1. These signals are output onto the motherboard in the same fashion as with the 6CP2. Therefore, the cards in the 3150 Remote see the 7BI1 as being transparent. That is, they are controlled by the 6CPP2 instead of the 6CP2.

    Installing the 7BI1 consists of unplugging the 6CP2 and replacing it with the 7BI1. A 34 pin flat ribbon cable then plugs into the J3 connector of the 7BI1 while its other end plugs into the J4 connector of the 6CPP2. A 6 pin cable then plugs into the J1 connector of the 7BI1. Where it terminates would depend on the particular system application (7DPA1 or an SCU).

    Bus Interface Theory of Operation The key to understanding the 7BI1 is to understand the address strapping options. Since the 6CPP2 can only address eight (8) 3150 cards, there must be a means of selecting these eight (8) from the sixteen (16) possible addresses which the 6CP2 can normally handle. This is done via the X1 through X8 platforms.
  • Page 9 The remaining signals needed to interface to the 3150 boards are merely passed through the 7BI1 from the J3 connector to the P1 connector (DO-D7, AO-A2, R/W, WP, IRQ, etc.). Three relays on the 7BI1, K1-K3, are used to drive the bus select relays on the FDPA1 or SCU. Their contacts enter via J1.

    Bus Interface Maintenance Maintenance Philosophy The 7BI1 Bus Interface is a high-speed digital panel that can be serviced by using standard equipment and techniques. Equipment such as digital multimeters and oscilloscopes can be used to measure voltages and check pulse waveforms.
