It is important to note that the Personal DMD has not been tested on all of these machines – it is the responsibility of the user to make a final decision about the suitability of this system for use on a particular pinball machine.

    Please read all of the instructions before performing the installation. The Personal DMD adds a small screen into the apron area of the pinball machine. It is designed to fit machines with a specific type of apron as shown in figure 1.
  • Page 4 1. Screen Power Cable Assembly – allows connection between the TFT Screen and the 12v Regulator Board 2. Power Cable Assembly – allows connection between the DMD Extender and the 12V Regulator Board 3. Composite Video Cable – allows connection between the Raspberry Pi and the TFT Screen 4.
  • Page 5 Figure 4 – Playfield in the correct position for installation With the playfield in this position it will be possible to begin routing the power and video cables for the Personal DMD. Step 2 – Prepare the back box Remove the translite glass and open the back box light door. Lift the speaker panel and rest on the pinball side rails.
  • Page 6 Step 3 – Connect the Video Cable Figure 5 shows the location of the composite video connector on the Raspberry Pi. Figure 5 – Composite Video connector shown with red arrow Connect one end of the Composite Video Cable into the composite video connector on the Raspberry Pi, as shown in figure 6.
  • Page 7 Step 4 – Connect the Power Cable Assembly Connect one end of the Power Cable Assembly into the 'POWER OUT' connector of the DMD Extender, as shown in figure 7. Figure 7 – Power Cable Assembly in connector 'POWER OUT' With the Power Cable Assembly and the Composite Video Cable push the free ends of the cables through the back box cable hole.
  • Page 8 Step 5 – Route Cables from Back box Replace the speaker panel into the back box. Using 2 cable ties, fix the cables coming from the back box to the wiring loom conduit as shown in figure 9. Figure 9 – Cable fixing Fixing the cables in this way will allow the back box to be folded without straining the cables to the DMD Extender.
  • Page 9 Step 6 – Mount the TFT Screen Select which side the of the apron to install the TFT Screen – it can be mounted in either of the scorecard areas, although viewing angles are best when it is located on the right hand side. Push the screen cables through the apron hole and through the available playfield hole so that the cables hang free under the playfield as show in in figure 10.
  • Page 10 Step 7 – Route Cables Under Playfield The 12V Regulator needs to be mounted under the playfield. Select a suitable area in the lower 1/3 of the playfield, remove the yellow paper from the adhesive mounts and firmly place the 12V Regulator onto the wooden playfield.

Ensure all cables are secure and are away from playfield mechanisms. Failure to route cables carefully could result in damage to your machine.
  • Page 12 Step 6 – Check All Connections Before completing the installation please check all connections made for correct insertion and orientation. Lower the playfield, replace the balls, glass and lock down bar. Step 7 - Configuration Use the DMD Extender Configuration Utility to configure the system for use with your screen. Please refer to the Configuration Utility manual for instructions on how to use.
