    Trailer, Gas Bottle Trailer, Personnel Carrier, Drum Trailer, Railman and Long Rail Trailer. The Permaquip Kubota RRV is a 4 x 4 vehicle fitted with a diesel engine, which has the ability to carry two persons in the enclosed cab in addition to the payload located in the rear.

    SAFE AND CORRECT USE Please keep this operating & maintenance manual for future reference. To ensure safe and correct use of the Permaquip Kubota the following should be noted: Wear foot protection when using the Permaquip Kubota. Additional Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) should be worn according to local regulations.
  • Page 9 Do not operate in areas where the DC third and / or conductor rails are live. Do not use the Permaquip Kubota for any other purpose than as described in the introduction. Do not hold off the trailer brakes using mechanical means.
  • Page 10 Do not use the Kubota RRV for any other purpose than as described in the introduction. Do not reset any of the emergency stops until the vehicle has been brought to a controlled stop and the reason for the activation established. Do not use the Kubota RRV on light rail.

    GENERAL LAYOUT The base vehicle general layout is defined in the Kubota Operator’s Manual. • OEM work lights have been fitted to the front and rear of the vehicle. • The original front driving head lights have been modified to also work in rail mode when driving forward.

    5.1. Vehicle Cab Controls There is a Control Module mounted on the Permaquip Kubota dashboard, as shown below. These controls have the following function: • Air Pressure Gauge. • Warning Buzzer: Intermittent Sound: Low Air Pressure. Continuous Sound: Trailer Breakaway.

    If the triggered emergency stop is reset then the rail enhancements will be re-activated. The engine will not restart without the ignition key being turned to the start position. Permaquip recommend bringing the vehicle to a controlled stop prior to the resetting of any of the Emergency stops.

    6.2. CCTV The CCTV system automatically comes on when the vehicle is started. The monitor is located within the Control Module and the camera is located on the rear number plate light mount. The CCTV system fitted is intended to aid reverse travel, particularly at dusk / dawn and at night when visibility is restricted.

    • Drive the vehicle onto the rails at a suitable level crossing (as directed by the supervisor), and ‘centre’ all four wheels thus ensuring that all of the Permaquip Kubota wheels are positioned over the rails and the front wheels are straight.

    Kubota. Take up the slack. • Lift the Permaquip Kubota into position, aligned over the track. Continue to lower the vehicle slowly, allowing the front and rear rail wheels and tyres to make contact with the rail.

    6.7. Start-up Observe the operating parameters defined in the Technical Specification. Observe the operating restrictions and safe working practices as defined by national and local regulations. In the event the vehicle needs to be restarted following an emergency or accidental stop utilising one of the emergency stop buttons, repeat the start-up procedures.

    Attach the four sling hooks to each of the lifting points ensuring the sling is not twisted or caught around any parts of the Kubota. Take up the slack. • Lift the Permaquip Kubota off track and slowly lower to the designated area. • Remove the wire rope sling.

    The Personnel carrier should only be propelled not towed by the Permaquip Kubota. The LRT should only be towed not propelled by the Permaquip Kubota.   • Page 34: Connecting To The Vehicle (With Air Brakes)

    • Wait until the brakes can be seen to be released before engaging gear and moving off. When braking to a stop, apply the vehicle brakes gently in good time before the stopping point is reached. • Harder braking action will release the hydraulic pressure holding the trailer brakes off and they will apply fully in approximately 4-5 seconds.

    All equipment must be stowed prior to recovery. The vehicle must not be propelled or towed at more than 5 mph. • The Permaquip Kubota has towing points on the front and rear which can be utilised to facilitate emergency recovery.

    10.3. Recovery Times • In the event of machine failure, the Kubota can be off-tracked and moved clear of the railway line within 2 hours. • For reasonably foreseeable failures of the electrical, hydraulic or pneumatic systems alone, the machine should be capable of returning to travelling mode gauge within 20 minutes.
