    Attention: read this information before installing the product. - This product is intended to be installed by Qualified Personnel only. The STAR-Box™ is intended to be supplied by an NEC Class 2 power source, rated 9-30 V, minimum 30 mA.

    The STARGATE™ base station is connected to the STAR-Box™ through a standard RS485 bus cable with connector placed on the left side of the housing. The STAR-Box™ mechanical dimensions are 167 x 115 x 40 mm (6.57 x 4.53 x 1.57 in.). It weighs about 260 g. (9.3 oz).

    Shield The signals on S1 are repeated on S2 to facilitate network connections. In this way the network bus can enter and exit the STAR-Box™ from different spring clamps but be physically connected together. The Shield should be connected to the earth ground in one point only.

    CAUTION 2.5.1 STARGATE™ Connection Settings The STAR-Box™ to STARGATE™ connection is made with a standard RS485 cable and can be configured to pass the power to the STARGATE™ through the RS485 cable or not depending on the system configuration.     Figure 12 - RS485 Bus Termination Jumper The insertion of jumper J1 terminates the RS485 bus. This should be done only for the last STAR-Box™ device in the network and bus termination should not be made inside the STARGATE™ device.

    The STAR-Box™ must be disconnected from the power supply when setting jumpers. CAUTION 2.6.1 Host Connection Settings The STAR-Box™ to Host connection can be made using two different RS232 cables and can be configured to manage RTS/CTS handshaking through the cable or not depending on the system configuration.

    Figure 14 - Connection Jumper Settings 2.6.2 RS485 Bus Termination Converter Mode: In this case STAR-Box™ is connected to the Host and therefore should be terminated as the first device on the network bus. Only jumper J1 should be inserted to terminate the RS485 bus.

    2.6.3 Converter/Repeater Selection STAR-Box™ active models are used either in Converter Mode to connect the RS485 bus to an RS232 port on a Host PC, or in Repeater Mode to increase the RS485 signal power (in long or complex bus configurations).

    LED Indicators Figure 18 - LED Indicators The three internal LEDs indicate the following: (red) indicates the STAR-Box™ is connected to the power POWER ON supply and the power is applied. (red) indicates activity on the RS485 bus from the Host. When DATA TO RS communication takes place, this LED will blink.
