    ACCESSORIES 4 DESCRIPTION OF THE MACHINE The Bench lathe Art. 0657 is a machine tool, with a horizontal axis, for the machining of metallic materials by means of cold chip removal. The machine is completely manually operated, as it can only execute movements under the direct control of the operator.

    MACHINES AND ACCESSORIES 4.2.2 Head and spindle The different spindle speeds are obtained by means of a gearbox with transmission belts (see also section 4.2.3 of this manual). The spindle is installed on the head shaft, and is supported by precision bearings.

    MACHINES AND ACCESSORIES 6 FORBIDDEN USES AND HAZARDS The modes of use specified in the manual as incorrect should never be permitted under any circumstances. Using the machine for lathing non-ferrous materials, unauthorized manoeuvres, or misuse or failure to maintain the machine can result in serious danger to the safety of the staff, especially the operator, and will affect the functionality and intrinsic safety of the machine itself.

    MACHINES AND ACCESSORIES 7 LIFTING, TRANSPORTATION AND STORAGE 7.1 Lifting To lift the Lathe, proceed as follows: 1. To achieve a perfect balance, move the tailstock all the way on the right side of the pallet and be sure to tighten the lock nut; 2.

    MACHINES AND ACCESSORIES 7.2 Transportation The machine can be transported with the aid of vehicles and/or industrial vehicles, such as trucks with sufficient size to contain the machine itself. The machine must be suitably anchored to the means of transport (for example, through the aid of ropes). During transport, the machine must be protected from rain, snow, hail, wind, and any other adverse weather conditions.

    MACHINES AND ACCESSORIES 8 ASSEMBLY AND COMMISSIONING 8.1 Identification of the installation site To install the machine, identify an area that is well lit, away from wet areas and has no sources of vibration nearby. The lathe must be positioned in such a way that adequate spaces are available for the operator, in order for it to be used to its full potential, and to allow the adjustment, maintenance and cleaning operations to be performed safely.

Turning the selector to the right, the spindle rotates clockwise. Emergency stop and start/stop button To start the lathe, press the green button marked with "I".

To restore power to the machine again after an emergency stop, open the red button and press the green start button.

    MACHINES AND ACCESSORIES 9.2.3 Tailstock lever and handwheel There are manual controls on the tailstock (levers, handwheels, etc.) that allow fine adjustment and feeding to be performed. Tailstock transverse adjusting screw The screw allows for adjustments to the transverse centring of the tailstock.

    10 OPERATION Intended use and materials The Bench lathe (Art. 0657) has been designed and constructed for the machining of metallic materials by means of cold chip removal. Any use and lack of respect for the technical parameters established by the manufacturer may be dangerous to operators; therefore, the manufacturer cannot assume any liability for resulting damages.

    MACHINES AND ACCESSORIES 10.1 Traditional turning To operate correctly, for traditional turning operations, proceed as follows: 1. Make sure that the electric motor is not powered, that the main switch (E) and the switch (A) are in position "0". Adjusting the Speed Despite the presence of the micro-safety switch on the spindle screen, it is forbidden to perform the loading / unloading of the pieces and to change the tools before having turned off the machine and disconnected the power supply.

Insert the tool on the turret of the tool holder carriage, and secure it with the relative locking lever (I, Figure 17). 7. Adjust the position of the tool carriage and slide using the appropriate levers and hand wheels (Figure 16).

    MACHINES AND ACCESSORIES 11 MAINTENANCE Electric shock Before maintenance or checks, turn off the machine and ALWAYS cut off the power supply. This is to avoid the risk of electric shock. Regularly clean and take care of the machine to guarantee proper efficiency and a long working life.

The gear unit requires no maintenance other than lubrication. 11.3 Adjusting the Machine 11.3.1 Adjusting the tension of the belts Make sure to use the appropriate belt tension to transmit motion from the motor to the spindle.

To adjust the play of the slide, loosen the lock nuts with a hex wrench, loosen or tighten the screws with a screwdriver as needed, then tighten the lock nuts.
