The MilaMai baby carrier MilaMai is a carrying support designed for babies and toddlers from birth to about four years of age. Features: • Ergonomic baby carrying posture: The MilaMai baby carrier was developed with a focus on the baby’s physiological and healthy “spread-squat”...
What is the “spread-squat” position? Babies should be carried in a physiological spread-squat position. In this position, the child’s knees are higher than its bottom, and the thighs are spread at roughly 90 degrees. This sup- ports the healthy maturation of the hip joints. To achieve this posture, make sure that the gap width for the leg position spans from the hollow of one of baby’s knees to the other but without poking or chafing.
• Only take your hands off the child when he or she is securely seated in the MilaMai carrier, the buckles are fastened and secured with the elastic safety tabs, and all belt straps are tightened.
Should the buckle accidentally come unfastened, it will get caught in the elastic band and your child will stay safe and secure. Before you can use the MilaMai, adjust the gap width for leg positioning and the back panel height to suit the size of your baby.
Front carrying with MilaMai Option without crossing the shoulder straps Adjust the MilaMai to suit the size of your child. Join the buckle elements of the belt strap and those of the shoul- der straps together without crossing or twisting either of them.

Make sure the belt straps run UNDER the baby’s legs. Now tighten the belt straps of the MilaMai so that the back panel is already in place but not sitting too tightly.

Smooth the folds in the fabric of the back panel outwards and into the hollow of the child’s knee. Done! Enjoy carrying your baby.
Open the sternum strap at the nape of your neck. Hold your child with one hand and slide one of the shoul- der straps off your shoulder. Now you can take the baby out of the MilaMai carrier from the side.
Front carrying with MilaMai Option with crossed shoulder straps Adjust the MilaMai carrier to the appropriate size for your child and place the waist strap around your waist so that the headrest of the raised back panel is on the outside.

Put your baby in front of your stomach and bring him or her into a spread-squat position over the waist strap of the MilaMai carrier. Now put the back panel around your child and the sec- ond shoulder strap back on your shoulder. Make sure the...

Grab the shoulder strap that you last put on your shoul- der and tighten it. When tightening the strap, it is helpful to pull in the direction of the strap, in this case diagonally downwards. Tighten the second shoulder strap in the same way. The shoulder straps are now crossed diagonally across your back.
Taking the baby out when shoulder straps are crossed It can be a bit challenging to get the shoulder straps of the MilaMai open again so that you can take your baby out of the carrier. When you lift your baby up slightly inside the MilaMai, the straps on your back automatically slide lower down.
Adjusting the MilaMai for a newborn. See the adjustments prior to wear on page 5. Strap the MilaMai carrier around your waist in front of you and place your newborn in the baby carrier as described on the previous pages. Do not tighten the straps yet! Now reach into the pouch of the MilaMai with one hand and lift your baby a little by its bottom.
This ensures lateral head support. The MilaMai’s long ties are easy to reach in the back car- rying position. When the headrest is raised, use a simple knot to tie the headrest to the shoulder strap by thread-...
Back carrying with MilaMai Carrying option for smaller babies Ready the MilaMai for use as described on page 6 item 1. Also see the adjustments prior to wear on page 5. Place the waist strap around your waist so that the head- rest of the raised back panel is on the outside.

Hold both shoulder straps of the MilaMai carrier directly at the base of the straps and bring them together in front of your child’s face. The baby has to be enclosed by the straps in such a way that its head cannot slip downwards.

Once the baby is on your back, take both straps just as tightly and firmly in the other hand. Now slip into the sec- ond strap with your free arm. Take one shoulder strap in each hand and keep it held taut.
Back carrying with MilaMai Taking the baby out when using the back carrying position Loosen the belt straps a few centimetres by lifting the buckles. Hold the baby’s bottom with one hand while holding both shoulder straps with the other hand. Bring your child as far forward as possible onto your hip.
Sometimes a child can be in between sizes: If the waist strap is in the upper drawstring casing, the MilaMai may seem too small, yet the child may sink too far down in the back panel if the lower drawstring casing is used.
Back carrying with MilaMai Carrying option for larger babies and toddlers Ready the MilaMai for use as described on page 16 item 1. Also see the adjustments prior to wear on page 5. Place the waist strap around your waist so that the head- rest of the raised back panel is on the outside.
Page 25
In so doing, you pull the back panel over your child. Make sure that the belt straps run UNDER the child’s legs. Tighten the MilaMai carrier firmly. As described on page 18 item 11.
Notes Always carry your child facing towards you. Many parents notice that their baby wants to be able to look around more and thus carry their baby face forward in the front carrying position. We strongly advise against this carrying position as it does not provide support for the healthy spread-squat position and forces the baby into an unnatural hollow back position.
Simple design, suitable from birth to about 1.5–2 years, the LueMai simply is a comfortable and easy-to-use carrier with tie straps. Velcro sternum strap for MilaMai If the buckle of the sternum strap bothers you, the wide sternum strap with Velcro can enhance wearing comfort.
