Why does my blood pressure fluctuate over the course
of the day?
An individual's blood pressure varies throughout the day.
It is influenced by a wide range of factors. Therefore,
always measure your blood pressure under the same
conditions.
The following chart shows possible blood pressure fluctu-
ations over a 24-hour period.

The following factors will influence blood pressure readings
and cause variations:
• Bathing
• Drinking alcohol
• Moving
• Eating
• Thoughts
Does it matter whether the measurement is taken on
the left or the right arm?
Measurements can be taken on the left or right arm. How-
ever, further measurements should always be taken on the
same arm - preferably on the arm on which higher blood
pressure is measured.
