Chapter 3 - Introduction 3. Introduction 3.1. General information The product line WP-3000 provides a transparent wireless transmission of PROFIBUS. X stands for different variants which are separated by different maximum PROFIBUS DP speeds on the cable side. The data transmission is completely transparent for the PROFIBUS DP master and slaves.
Page 10
Fig. 3.2: Radio network The PROFIBUS DP bus speed is from 9600bit/s up to 1,5Mbit. Behind the transmission path the PROFIBUS is continued with the same speed. Please observe the larger signal delay when using radio transmission. The signal delay ranges approx. between 20ms and 80 ms.
Chapter 3 - Introduction 3.2. Product family The product family WP-3000 (models 3706-X) consists of a wide range of devices with different performance characteristics for different radio transmission technologies. The chart below shows the complete product range. All products are identical in terms of structure and function, i.e. the description for installation and settings applies to all device types.
Chapter 3 - Introduction 3.4. ProfiSafe applications At ProfiSafe the transmission medium is called “Black Channel“, i.e. it is not part of the safety function. Because the WP-3000 acts like a cable, it does not affect the safety function. The safety functions will be executed by the Siemens F CPU and the according ProfiSafe modules (e.g.
Chapter 3 - Introduction 3.5. Delay by the radio link The table shows the data exchange time of different device types towards the PROFIBUS subscriber behind the transmission path at a bus speed of 500kbit/s and a DP slave with 8Byte read/write Radio transmission Device type Delay typical...
Chapter 4 – Integrated Diagnostic PROFIBUS slave 4. Integrated PROFIBUS diagnostic slave The WP-3000 master may be equipped with a diagnostic slave (DS). Besides the transparent transmission path the WP-3000 gets therefore its own DP address. The diagnostic slave allows you to measure the transmission path.
Chapter 5 - Installation 5. Installation 5.1. Important information Before you start with the installation please read the information in chapter 7 “Tips and Tricks – Improving the EMC safety” and observe these during all steps of the installation. Thereby you avoid electromagnetic interferences and you improve the quality of the data transmission.

Chapter 5 - Installation Systems with 1,9 GHz DECT radio modems or 2,4 GHz Bluetooth radio modems need an identification number. The identification number is allocated by the manufacturer. It is recommended to verify the allocation. Access to the Proceed with the following steps to access the identification identification number: number...
Page 22
Don’t forget the DECT number at the second master. The roaming change level (2. line in slave display) defines the bit failure rate from which the slave starts searching for a new connection. Change the roaming change level only after consultation with Schildknecht.
Page 23
Chapter 5 - Installation Identification numbers for 2,4 GHz Bluetooth modems At 2,4 GHz Bluetooth modules master and slave show a single line MAC number: MAC no. (12 digits) The MAC number (MAC = Media Access Control) has to be identical in all master and slave modems.
Chapter 6 – Settings 6. Settings 6.1. General information No settings are required in the controller because the wireless data transmission is completely transparent for the PROFIBUS master and slave. Chapter 7 – Tips and Tricks Electromagnetic Use always screened cables for the interface cable and the shielding supply cable. Thereby you reduce the interference probability by a ratio of 100 compared to unshielded cables and even up to a ratio of 1000 if you also avoid loops. The density of the shield netting should be at least 85%.

Chapter 7 – Tips and Tricks In highly disturbed environmental conditions, which may occur for example in industry buildings with induction furnaces we recommend a PE free installation (see illustration). The galvanized mounting plate cannot be grounded due to the high voltage drop of the different grounding points within the building.
Chapter 8 – Tips and Tricks 8.2. Guidelines for optimized installation of antennas Basic rule 1 Try to use directional antennas before you use omni directional ones. It´s a better strategy to increase the PROFIBUS cable so you can use directional antennas Basic rule 2 Try to connect antennas to the radios with the shortest possible antenna cable.
