PLC•1 MKII Passive Line Controller
Introduction:
Thank you for purchasing the PLC•1 MKII Passive Line Controller.
Please read the entire contents of this guide before making any connections.

System Requirements:

To achieve optimum performance, your source components should have enough output to drive your
amplifier(s) directly. This is usually listed in their specifications in volts RMS.
The amplifier should have an input impedance of 20k ohms or higher, and an input sensitivity lower
than the source's rated output. The input sensitivity is the signal level required to drive the amplifier to
rated power. For example, a CD player with 2 volts RMS output and an amplifier with 1 volt
sensitivity would work fine. In a system using a 1volt output source and an amplifier with 2 volts
sensitivity, you would not have enough signal to drive the amplifier to full power.
Being a passive device, shielded output cables of less than 2 meters are recommended. If longer
lengths are required, low capacitance types are desired.

Overview:

Power Up

At power up, the PLC will default to mute (no input selected), and automatically reduce the volume to
zero. This is a safety precaution to prevent damage in the event of a power outage. After power up, it
takes approximately 12 seconds to lower the volume and be ready to accept user commands. Functions
can be selected by front panel controls or RC•1a remote control.

Inputs

The audio inputs (labeled 1 through 4) can be used for any standard audio source such as CD players,
phono preamps, tuners, TV audio etc. When an input is selected, the corresponding number of blue
LED's will illuminate for easy identification from across the room.

  • Page 2 Home Theater Bypass The number 4 input can also be configured as a Home Theater Bypass, enabling connection from the front channel outputs of a Home Theater Processor or preamplifier. This allows the use of your Stereo system for the front channels of your surround/HT system. When connected in this manner, the PLC's volume control is bypassed, and the HT system is controlled by the processors controls.
