INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS AND WIRING FOR
OPERATION
The 8709 Isolator module isolates short circuits on an Addressable Device Circuit
of a fire alarm control unit. The 8709 operates in both Style 4 (Class B) and Style 6
(Class A) circuits.
When used in a Style 4 circuit, placing devices in several branches after 8709
modules, a short in the wiring within that branch is disconnected from the rest of
the loop. The devices in the separate branches will continue to operate.
When used in a Style 6 circuit, placing devices between 8709 modules, a short in
the wiring within that group is disconnected from the rest of the loop. The remain-
der of the devices will continue to operate.
Refer to Figure 1 for the location of the two input terminals, two output terminals
and earth ground.
A yellow LED flashes when a device detects a short circuit. The 8709 then isolates
that part of the circuit. When the short is removed, the 8709 automatically restores
the circuit to normal operation. The 8709 does not have an address and therefore
does not require address programming nor does it reduce the capacity of the
Addressable Device Circuit.
Remove all system power before installation, first the battery and then the AC.
MOUNTING
(See Figure 2) The 8709 must be installed in a UL Listed electrical box.
