WWI INFANTRY
Der Erste Weltkrieg, von Historikern auch als „Urkatast-
rophe des 20. Jahrhunderts" bezeichnet, wurde von 1914
bis 1918 geführt. Der Ansturm des deutschen Heeres
zu Beginn des Krieges nach Frankreich hinein kam sehr
bald zum Stillstand. Von da an bestimmte der Kampf in
den Schützengräben das Geschehen auf den westlichen
Kriegsschauplätzen. Großbritannien stand an der Seite
seines Verbündeten Frankreich. Das Kriegsende wurde
mit dem Waffenstillstand vom 11. November 1918 besie-
gelt.

The First World War also referred to by historians as the
greatest catastrophe of the 20th century was waged
from 1914 to 1918. The German Army's advance into
France at the beginning of the war was soon halted and
from thence onwards the battle of the trenches decided
the run of events on the Western Front. Great Britain
stood at the side of its ally France. The end of the war
was sealed with the Armistice on 11th November 1918.
