Use this guide to install and configure the Cyclades AlterPath KVM and related Cyclades AlterPath
products. Refer to the AlterPath KVM Installation, Configuration, and Users Guide, located at
http://cyclades.com/support/downloads.php, for more-detailed information about the KVM.
The following graphic illustrates the connections that can be made to the AlterPath KVM. The circled
numbers in the graphic correspond to the circled numbers in the list of steps in the table below.

The following table lists the basic installation instructions in the order they should be performed. For more-
detailed procedures, see the page number listed for each step.

Mount the KVM.

Make an Ethernet connection.

(Optional) Connect cascaded KVM units to the KVM.

Connect servers to be managed through the KVM.

(Optional) Connect AlterPath PMs to the KVM.

(Optional) Plug servers to be managed through the KVM into an AlterPath PM.

Make a direct connection to the KVM console, User 1, or User 2 port for network configuration.

Power on the KVM and connected devices.

Perform basic network configuration through a direct connection to the console, User 1, or User 2 port.

(Optional) Enable access to the KVM without making a direct connection.

Add users, configure ports, and add in-band servers using the web manager.
