Radiator Repairs
A leaky radiator core should be repaired by soldering. Patent solu
tions added to the coolant in order to seal the radiator should be used
only in case of emergency as they may clog the cooling jackets and
pipes.
Anti-frceze Solutions
During the cold season when the temperature often falls below tho
freezing point it is necessary to fill the cooling system with a freeze-
proof mixture instead of water, which may freeze and damage the
radiator core or the cylinder block. Methylated spirit or ethylene
glycol may be used as antifreeze solutions. Methylated spirit, how
ever, is not very suitable because of its low boiling point, especially
when driving with high coolant temperature, which is desirable
during the cold season to make effective use of the heater. See page

Glycol, on the other hand, has a boiling point above that of water
and therefore only water need be added when replenishing. The dis-
