What to Do if the CPU 417-4H with the Order Number 6ES7 417-4HL00 and
Firmware Version < V2.1 Fails
The two CPUs in a S7-400H must have the same firmware version. If a CPU with the order
number 6ES7 417-4HL00 fails in your S7-400H, order a CPU with the same order number as a
spare part. A CPU with the firmware version V 2.1.4 will be shipped. Then proceed as follows:

Create an operating system update card for the firmware version of the failed CPU.
S
Use this to transfer the firmware version of the failed CPU to the new CPU.
S
The two CPUs now have the original firmware version. You can now transfer your S7-400H
to the redundant operating mode.
Note
It is currently only possible to upgrade the fault-tolerant system to firmware version V2.1.4 of
the CPUs when the system is switched off (see Section 4 of this production information
document).
You can upgrade the intact CPU to firmware version V2.1.4 by creating an operating system
update card for its firmware version and transferring it to the CPU.
Use in Fail-Safe Systems
You can use the CPU 417-4H with the order number 6ES7 417-4HL00-0AB0, version 03, firm-
ware version V2.1.4 in the S7-400F and S7-400FH fail-safe systems.
Firmware for the CPU 417-4H with the Order Number 6ES7 417-4HL01-0AB0
The CPU 417-4H with the MLFB 6ES7 417-4HL01-0AB0 must not be operated with the firm-
ware version V2.1.4.
Fault-Tolerant S7 Connections
Interruptions of a partial connection result in a prolonging of the runtime for ongoing
communication jobs via fault–tolerant S7 connections.
